Hey Jay and Amber! Since 4th of July is coming up, is there any chance you could watch The Patriot with Mel Gibson?

I loved this movie. I was 20 years old when it hit video and it was one of my favorite movies. Clerks 2 is very funny, vulgar, but funny. You have to watch it just for the song and dance number. Mallrats is the follow up movie to Clerks. Showing that Kevin Smith movies are linked, they talk about the woman that died in the pool (mid back stroke) in Mallards and Chasing Amie as well.

Not a fan of this movie as well, so skipping this one. I’m still hoping for Back to the Future 3, or 9 to 5. Been getting tired of the Planet of the Apes movies.

As you mentioned, this might be the most dialog driven movie I ever watched. Back when it came out it was super popular, among us in our our early 20s, at the time. Also Silent Bob, is Kevin Smith, the writer and director.

I worked in the video store business from 1990-2000. This movie came out on video to rent in May ‘95. I was 22 at the time and a lot of the humor at the time was very relevant to those of us who toiled in the convenience store/video store industry. I could write a book and jokingly have said that I would about my video store days called “Say Goodbye To Hollywood”. We had our share of funny customers, too. The men who would wear baseball caps and sunglasses on Wednesdays and rent “adult films”. They would never say hello or make eye contact with us. Then they would give you that fake “I’m going to look at the new releases then when they’ve not looking good to the adult room”. 😉 We also used to have people ask us questions like “Do you have that movie with that guy in it? You know, the guy?” One time we had two women come to blows because they were fighting over a movie. They took it out into the parking lot. I could go on and on. This film is an acquired taste and a lot of the people who connected with these movie and some of the other Kevin Smith films were Gen Xers who usually didn’t feel represented onscreen. Looking back on it, there are some scenes now that make me cringe, but overall I still think it’s a funny movie. It was shot on a minuscule budget, for sure. Amber and J, I am going to do what I did many years ago and suggest a movie for you: “High Fidelity” (2000). Trust me, you will love it. It’s right up your alley being music lovers and both of you will dig it. I just know it.

I'm really surprised that this was picked, given all the other comedies that have been recommended here. Kevin Smith financed this movie himself, using his credit cards, so production is very limited. Smith is an acquired taste, and you have to like crude humor to enjoy it. Don't watch Clerks II, it's not good, crosses some lines. I don't think this movie was "popular". Maybe in the circles of people who know Kevin Smith, but he is not mainstream. I think we watched this after watching Dogma, which is very funny, but also pretty offensive if you're Catholic. Just wondering, where are some of the recent suggestions are coming from? YouTube I reckon? Not that I mind what you watch, it's your channel, but it would be nice to see some long term suggestions from here get some sunlight. Do you keep a running list of movies that you want to see? Maybe a make a poll out of some of those those and let us choose?

Yeah, not a fan of this movie

Fonzwife

There are better comedies: "Young Frankenstein" "You've Got Mail" You'll love "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid"

Toby Smith

Not a fan of this movie, but enjoy.
