Watching you two watch this makes me remember how confused and lost I was the first time I saw this episode. Thankfully I was watching along with a different reaction channel where one of them had seen it before, so he was able to kind of explain key points I missed. Don’t worry, it’ll all fall into place eventually. Still so happy you guys gave this show a chance. 🙌

I have to warn you though...we watched 2 more yesterday and I didn't remember anything from the 1st episode. But, I got it now. Lol. So Tomaj you don't have to explain again. Thanks nephew, we appreciate you!! I'll make a note of all of this

This is not a flashback, this is four years after the end of season 3. Marley is at War with the Mid-East Allied Forces. According to Zeke this war happened because of their defeat against the scouts four years ago. With them losing Annie aka the Female Titan (Who is still prisoner on Paradise Island in her frozen state) and losing the Colossal Titan, Marley is in a sense weaker with two less Titans. More Anti-Titan weapons are being made by other countries it appears and with less Titan Warriors Marley isn't as strong. The weapons went so far as to rip the Armored Titans arm off.. the scouts thunder spears couldn't even do that much damage in one blow, so it goes to show other places are more advanced and the fear of Titans is real! Zeke aka The Beast Titan and Eren's brother has an ability to scream and turn humans into Titans, so yes Shamonda great job catching that throwback to the season 3 battle! The five children we see aka the Warrior Candidates are Falco, Gabi, Colt (brother to Falco) , Udo and Zofia. The 4 younger ones are all potential candidates to inherit the Armored Titan because remember, as we learned from Eren last season, presumably a person who possesses one of the nine Titans, only has 13 years to live since they cannot outlive the original Founding Titan. Renier was behind the walls for 5 years, and this episode takes place four years after that, so that accounts for 9 years, so it's safe to say he probably had this ability a little while before traveling to the wall so he probably is close to his 13 years so they need to start picking a successor. Colt is the chosen successor for the Beast Titan as Zeke is also coming up on his 13 years! Towards the end, Zeke mentioned after this victory they needed to start planning to go back to Paradise Island, so they can try and take the Founding Titan from Eren while they still can. This war with the Mid-East forced them to put that mission on hold since they had to defend their home country. I would also like to add that the first 3 seasons were animated by WIT Studios and for the final season they decided to go with MAPPA Studios, who has done an amazing job, animating, editing, scoring and overall taking their time and working overtime to create this masterpiece of a season! I love the music for this season, the "Ashes on Fire" Score you hear when the Titans are fighting the Mid East is actually one of my ringtones 🤣. Anyways I say all that to say, the art style is different this season and it is because they switched studios! I really love the new art style personally.
