Orphan Black Season 2 Episode 2

Comments

Rewatching the beginning of this because I too was trying figure out how Art found the Proletheans. In the beginning of the episode in Art's apartment before Felix showed up, Art has a picture of the Prolethean fish symbol on his laptop and is running the picture through some techie, identification search on his laptop to find a match because they think they have Kira. They got detoured when Kira called and they went to find her. After they got seperated, I guess it's safe to assume Art went back to searching for the Proletheans to see if they had Kira. That's why when he pulled up to the Prolethean property, he was matching the picture symbol to make sure he got right location, so I assume it worked lol.

Baby Kira's Safe Y'all (at least for now lol)... No comment on photo cover for season 1. I don't know why they- nevermind. So, "mirror twins", huh. Who would guess that lol. It's one of those weird, random facts that have stuck with me ever since I heard about it from this show (sometimes I throw it in conversation with people when the occassion calls for it and it makes me feel smart 😄) lol. Mirror twins are identical twins, in a sense, but instead of the embryo splitting within a week of conception, it happens later around 7-10 days, creating the identical twins to actually look like mirror versions of each other. In some cases, even their organs. So, Helena is a "mirror twin" of Sarah. Have either of y'all ever noticed that Helena is the only left-handed one? She writes and eats with her left hand. Could this be the reason for her knack for surviving like a horror franchise? Is it that simple? Or is Helena just built different from her upbringing? 🤔... I have to say I was kinda excited for this episode. There's a lot going on here. But first- Name Check: 324B21 = Cosima's Clone Tag. "Coma Wig" = Rachel Duncan. Rachel's "Bodygaurd"/"Lawyer" = Daniel. Science Insistute = The D.Y.A.D. Institute. "Max Headroom" = Dr. Aldous Leekie. Annoying Blonde = Dr. Delphine Cormier. Annoying Brunette = Det. Angela Deangeles. Religious Extremist Terrorist Group/"Helena's People" = Proletheans Dead D Word = Tomas. Mrs. S' Old Crew = Birdwatchers. Mama Birdwatcher = Brenda. Cowboy Prolethean Leader = Henrik. Young, Redhead Prolethean = Grace. Weird Haired Prolethean = Mark. Allison's Theatre Friend = Sarah Stubbs. Yay! We got new clone phones. I'm glad that they eliminated that problem immediately and didn't drag that problem out. So out with the pink and in with the green. Okay. Which sister to start with? Dear Allison. She almost can't catch a break, can she? Granted, she sometimes create or at least escalate her own problems (they all low-key do sometimes lol), but she's trying. At least she was until the truth smacked her in the face. Allison finally has it confirmed that Donnie has been her monitor all along and she finds out while at Anysley's funeral 😩. She immediately went for a drink. She was probably drunk at rehearsals before she started drinking with Felix (the way y'all laughed when those little bottles kept popping up lol). I love the friendship them two have somehow developed together and it is its own thing outside of the shared connection of Sarah. Allison goes to Felix first when she needs emotional support as we saw her do at least twice this episode alone and he's become so quick to back her up and give that her. Now he's gone and run off with Sarah and we end that note with Allison slipping back into the coping mechanism of popping and sipping. Seeing Donnie trying to spy on Allison in action was hilarious. He also seemed to forget that his wife is low-key crazy. If Helena's a horror-slasher villain, then Allison is one of those crazy, white women thrillers from the 90s, except more comedic (maybe she's "Serial Mom" 😂). The Sarah Stubbs addition. She just seems so friendly, sweet, and always smiling. Like that friend you have (or probably should have) when you're feel down, you go over their house to feel better and get fresh baked treats with no judgement lol... Oh, I now want to refer to "book clubs" as "full contact reading". Thank you, Aynsley 😆. Felix is always quick to drop his life and everything for Sarah, as much as he complains about it, and this time he's left Allison. He seemed pessimistic in the beginning of the episode when Sarah told him that they were gonna runaway as soon as she got Kira back. It felt like the moment in the beginning of season one (I think the first episode) when they were in Beth's apartment after they had made plans to leave afyer they get the money, only for Sarah basically tell Felix that that she was changing the plans and was going to disappear again because of how weird and hot the "Beth" situation was getting, and he yelled at her for keep disappearing on her family, specifically Kira (and gave her that wake with Vic as payback). Feels like Sarah has made a lot of broken promises to Felix over the years and he keeps falling for it. At least heeems like the three of them have finally made it to running away just the three of them like they've planned. Circumstances are less than ideal, but what now? Good thing he's an "entrenepuer" and can probably make his money anywhere if he really wanted to... Now, onto Cosima. Oh, Cosima. She was already considering signing the contract to join D.Y.A.D. so she can have help and proper resources to study the sisters, but also cure this seemingly genetic illness problem within the clones. Sarah took the opportunity as "Cosima" to negotiate Cosima getting her own lab. That all sounds great, but she's still casually playing footies with Delphine under the table, as if that wasn't got her caught up in the first place. I, too, think Cosima forgave Delphine too easily after the betrayal, especially since I feel that Delphine has been shown as having boundary issues, especially regarding Cosima, which is problematic itself, especially in the situation they're all in. I guess when you find out you're probably dying, you tend to forgive more easily and tend to let stuff go, but it's still a sticky situation. Delphine's the only one she's revealed her illness to (in return both Leekie and Rachel now know), probably out of moreso vulnerability and fear than actual trust. Now, Cosima is almost right back where she found herself in season one, except now she more surrounded and more deeply getting entangled with D.Y.A.D. I did like her impressed and amusement to finding out Sarah stole Leekie's badge right off of him. It was like she was having a proud sister moment but with the wrong company of people lol... And we finally get one of the Clone Clubbers, besides Sarah, meeting an antagonist clone. Cosima and Allison have only heard of Helena and Rachel but never actually met one of them until now. Interesting how the dynamic between Sarah and Rachel vs Cosima and Rachel. Cosima, although snarky, is less antagonistic than Sarah with how she approaches Rachel (granted, different circumstances, but also different personalities). I guess we're back to "Nice Rachel" from the season 1 finale for the time being (or maybe she just has smoke for Sarah specifically lol), even though Cosima is clearly being purposely "cheeky" towards Rachel regarding getting dropped by Sarah ("I'm Cosima. The real Cosima, not the one who kicked your ass or whatever. Gotta love concealer"), even though Leekie already warned her that Rachel "takes insult very personally" (Rachel definitely stared Cosima down when she made that comment to her lol), until Rachel pulled her medical files out on her. Cosima got real quiet and you could tell she was nervous after that. How do you manuever against someone who's been watching your lives, down to you having your medical history already on hand, and already knows so much about you without you ever knowing this whole time? Delphine's demeanor changed real quick the moment Rachel walked into the lab and meeting for the first time. Now, that she's met Rachel, she has to sign a new NDA, but she scurried quick when Rachel dismissed her to leave. I almost felt bad for her lol. I imagine it's jarring for all of them each time someone meets a new clone, especially since they that I imagine you would get used to it, but still jarring each time it happens, whether it's an outsider meeting one or another clone.I remember reading how the cast & crew would respond differently to Tatiana based on who she was dressed as she tried not to drop character too much to keep up with who she's playing as. Evelyn Brochu (Delphine) mentioned how jarring and different it was from being playful with Tatiana while she's Cosima to feeling nervous and uncomfortable around Tatiana whenever "Rachel" was around, and it went for all of them being around "Rachel" lol. I'm sure it's been mentioned by someone else already, but Evelyn Brochu was also a big candidate to play the clones, but they like her enough to create the character specifically for her as Dr. Delphine Cormier. Helena's got some proper medical treatment and we get some even further explanation regarding Helena, this time being not only a twin, but a "mirror twin", with her organs' placements being in the reverse order, making Sarah's killshot miss the heart. Mark said to Henrik he got her to the hospital just in time. Random note, but I love that random fact that Helena is such a foodie, specifically sweets (like her pouring sugar in her jello when at the diner with Sarah last season) lol. While the medical professionals were showing the cops what was in her pockets in the beginning at the hospital, most likely trying to find some indentification for her, and they pull out a picture of a baby, a couple of broken crayons, some lollipops, and some sugar packet lol. Like, what in the serial killer with a sweet tooth hell 😆. And it all started when Tatiana improvised Helena stealing "Beth's" muffin and eating the top part off in a "weird" way when she was at the station pretending to be Sarah as Beth ( #Clonception ) lol... We meet Tomas again, who's by Helena's bedside, and he got offed quickly. I guess it's less painful than the eye-gouging that Helena was giving when we last saw him lol. There seems to be a new rising sect within the Proletheans in comparison to Tomas, who seems more "traditionalist", holding onto "old customs" and takes views Helena as an "abomination" instead of a "miracle". "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind" - Albert Einstien Also, I don't think Mark minded the lack of hand washing before Henrick touch him considering he was just holding a semination needle in his mouth before that 😭. As a DSP, seeing Henrick touch Mark without washing his hands after being elbow deep in cow private bits rings alarm bells in my brain lol. Even gloved, you're definitely still supposed, especially after messing around in bodily fluids 🥴. No Paul this episode. It doesn't seem like Rachel's taken that Taiwan trip yet. I guess he's still packing his. At least they didn't unnecessarily shove him into the episode lol. Sarah's been having a rough couple of days. Thought she came close to finding her daughter and mum last episode, only to come up empty handed. Now, she finally gets her daughter back, but fears that she can't trust her mum, who's trying to take her daughter out the country without her. Even when she talked to Kira before they left trying to assess everything, she tells Kira that. She doesn't seem to completely seem to think Mrs. S is bad news, (Sarah to Kira before deciding the next move: "Mrs. S has lot of secrets. Some of them are good, yeah?"), but trusts her daughter enough to listen to her judgement. (They might want to low-key start ha ing her play the lotto or learn to play poker 😄). Art has officially joined Clone Club and partnered up with the worst member to partner up with because of course Sarah goes off on her own without waiting or letting someone know where she's going lol. Perhaps Art thinks, Sarah skipped out to avoid Daniel, so he wouldn't really have an idea that she actually got snatched up, unless there were working cameras. Having a cop is a great resource to have on their side though (as we saw how fast he tracked Kira down), but there's still Angie on the case and she's found a "new" clone, Helena. So, far he seems to be keeping her out of the loop, but Angie's not letting up. Now, Art is possibly suspended because of his confrontation with Rachel's guard, Daniel. So, now that he's "lost" Sarah, where does he go from here? And do we trust Art enough now that he's officially in the know and joined the team? I'll admit, I was excited for this episode (well, I get excited for all of them lol) because this was the episode where I declared Mrs. S as my favorite character by the end of it. In Season one, I saw Mrs. S as this strong, firm, protective mum/grandmother, who wasn't afriad to tell it like it is and kept that gun by her side to handle business (although that "hunting's not just for the rich" line feels more chilling in retrospect because what/who have you been hunting lol), and I adored the mother/daughter bond that seemed to grow between her and Sarah over the first season. That was, until they started making Mrs. S feel so sketchy in the finale, which I found devastating because I felt bamboozled. By the time this episode ended, I told myself "I don't know whether this woman is a villain or not, but Mrs. S has officially become my favorite character". In fact, the ambiguity of the character just made everything even better for me lol. "Who's side are you on, S?" She says she's on Sarah side and she even let Sarah & Kira go. In my head, she was either a foe pulling a really good long con (she'd been pulling con) or she's just been out here being Badass Mum in her Irish Sarah Connor bag (although saying "Irish" and "Connor" is low-key redundant lol). Mrs. S seems to have a lot of secrets that's she's keeping close and leaving us genuinely unsure if she's truly trustworthy. Either way, I knew it was going to be interesting, fun, and maybe terrifying for them to start unraveling them. So, we find out, according to Mrs. S, that she tossed the house and took Kira out of there because she noticed the house was not only being watched, but watched by multiple people, which seems to check out seeing as both D.Y.A.D. and the Proletheans are after Sarah & Kira, and they both lied to Sarah last episode about having Kira to get her to comply. Remember back in early season one when Sarah met up with Mrs. S in a park area and got in an argument about Sarah wanting to get Kira? Mrs. S was birdwatching by a lake, and was testing Sarah on her birdwatching skills while they were talking. It turns out birdwatching may have been part of underground network, Birdwatchers that helped her, Sarah, & Felix hide out when they left London. Maybe birdwatching is a tactic they use to spot things others wouldn't or to simply keep a lookout. I actually just noticed that she has a scope on the rifle she used at the end (see I'm still spotting stuff to this day lol), so maybe that keen eyesight comes in handy in various ways lol. They said that Mrs. S was part of "Guns For Funds", loaning weapons for money to finance their the network ("finance freedom" Siobhan said), so she definitely seems to know her way around guns instead of working the kitchen like Brenda said she tried to get her to do. "That little girl be drawing but she be paying attention". Kira always gave me chills. The young actress (Skylar Wexler) has this way of coming across as eerie without trying to come across as eerie, if that makes sense lol. The way she can just sense things and people. I love how Sarah is trusting that and listening as children are very often dismissed about what they see, know, hear, think, and/or feel very often, especially by adults. That whole sequence with Sarah trying to escape with Kira and Mrs. S getting betrayed was so intense because you have idea how it's gonna go. You can Mrs. S tell sensed something was off with the Birdwatchers too. The pacing back and forth, trying to break "protocol" on how they operate arrangements, etc. She definitely was feeling uneasy. I'm sure the irony of her criticizing Sarah being unable to keep her safe like her while unknowingly putting Kira in danger and almost getting her snatched up with the Birdwatchers wasn't lost on her. I guess her protection wasn't so "bulletproof" afterall. I tell what wasn't bulletproof and that was Brenda's face 😭. "Mrs. S is an Avenger". She might be and now I want a "Mrs. S with the Avengers theme" edit 😂. The way she just straight up forked (and knifed lol) Brenda up so quick and popped her son had me shook the first time I saw it. Sarah too as she made sure Kira stayed down when Mrs. S was standing in front of the truck with the rifle in her hands. She's probably either thinking Mrs. S is going to stop, maybe even hurt them, or she's afraid of Kira putting 2 and 2 together than grandmum just blasted a guy right in front of them. But the ambiguity continues as Mrs. S steps aside and let them both go (I'm sure she could have gotten them easily if she wanted to). Random Detail: I love that Mrs. S calls Sarah and Felix the name "Chicken" as a term of endearment and they all call Kira "Monkey". I honestly just think that's cute lol. So, we end Mrs. S on confronting Brenda. The way Mrs. S smoothly sat in the chair with the rifle in hand in front of Brenda like sent chills because it definitely didn't feel like it was the first time she's dropped bodies. And Brenda was an old friend of hers too. "Who are these cursed children you've brought into our lives?" "They're Project Leda". "I don't know what that is." "Good". And Mrs. S made sure it stayed that way. Whew! Nora McLellan (Brenda) is really sweet and joined our Clone Club Facebook group after this episode. She sent me a birthday video one year when my Clone Club friends made me a birthday video for me we used to do for each other. She still sends me birthday wishes every year ☺️. Although the fandom used to send each other birthday memes using a screenshot of Brenda pinned to table, but with a party hat on her head and a cake put in the picture in front of her lol... Coming Up: Will Henrik perform more unhygenic practices? Will we hear another disturbing song about cleaning up blood and brains from Allison's musical? Will we somehow end up with new Clone Phones next season? As Henrik ended this episode with, "It's a brand new day."

Hey guys. Just to clear up Ralphs question about Benjamin taking Kira's photograph, it was for her fake passport. The pretend abduction, Kira's phone call and the breadcrumb trail, was to enable Sarah and Art to track Kira's whereabouts. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, watch for easter eggs. It was made clear that Helena is left-handed. Why? because she is a mirror, which is an occurrence with identical twins, and this is why the bullet in her 'heart' did not kill her. Have you noticed that Helena, Sarah and Kira heal quickly? Maybe Kira is extra special? How and why is this so? Remember the guy in the restaurant asking for eggs that have not been tampered with? Another (easter) egg perhaps? The woman you saw hanging out clothes is Kathryn Alexandre. She briefly plays the nanny, but you see her in almost every multiple clone scene throughout the entire series. She is Tatiana's double, and they are best friends. It is the back of her head (and body) you see when the clones interact, and she is in every multi-clone scene acting as the other clone thus allowing Tatiana reference regarding spatial awareness. Kathryn is then deleted from the scene, and Tat mimics her, and does exactly what Kathryn did while her double once again acts as Tat's other identity. (That was an overly complex explanation. LOL) BTW, you seem to think it's Mrs. S in the picture. It is not her. But more interestingly, what is Project Leda? Have you heard the Greek mythology story of Leda and the Swan? Google it. :) Easter egg alert! Finally, I find it extremely interesting how the writers have interpreted why clones with identical DNA, are so different. This is the nature v nurture quandary. Are they suggesting being gay is a result of nurture, not nature? If DNA determines sexuality, why is Cosima gay? None of her sestra's are. It will be revealed that her parents are lesbians, so does her/our upbringing, not her/our genetics, influence sexual orientation? Hmm. See you next time. 😁 Cheers.
