Before I start -- sorry to everyone who got the email that only said "TBD" yesterday. As I am in charge of all of the scheduling for the podcast, I schedule all the posts out to their respective dates to make sure they get done ... but alas, I accidentally clicked "release" on that one! Again, sorry about the errant email. There was no magical clue inside of that TBD, but then again, we didn't even have clues this episode! However, what I do have is this list made by Mike Kenny which tells you all of the movies mentioned in episode 208.5!
Speaking of this episode, I revealed on The Aftershow that The Gold Rush / Two-Minute Warning / The Pom Pom Girls was originally meant to be the season 2 premiere way back when. We only taped that episode, and it stayed safely in my vault, but because of that I didn't really have any pictures of the boxes besides the Two-Minute Warning laserdisc.
Well ... until we went to record another episode yesterday, and I just so happened to find that Quentin had pulled several tapes and variants onto our Video Archives Podcast shelf. Let's take a look of them!
First up, from episode 206.5 we have a variant of The Ultimate Thrill.

This is so awesome -- the fact we have three variants of this box! It isn't every day that you get to see all of the different options that you could find on the shelf.

“No man deserves the best unless he's willing to die for it..." -- What a great quote! This tape comes from ebsmvideo.com -- which I think is now defunct.
Next up, look at this amazing box from The Birds, which was featured in episode 207.5.

I wanted to highlight this box in particular. It has the official sticker on the bottom (I'm guessing it was tape 1255 with the 1 cut off, but it could be 225), but look at the sticker on the top right. It's an actual sticker that says Video Archives 59.99! I haven't seen this before! What an awesome find and amazing art.

I love the font they use for the title treatment, and it's great to see Hitch with the bird.
Now let's get in to the tapes for this episode! Finding this tape for The Gold Rush was awesome. I love that it's from the Charlie Chaplin connection and it doubles with Pay Day. I haven't seen that one, have you?

This seems to have been tape 2458 from the original Video Archives. Also, this is a Key Video!

My tape for The Gold Rush does not compare to the one in the Archives.

You all saw the laserdisc for Two-Minute Warning in last week's newsletter, but here's my VHS for my collection!

Over at Cinema Force, we got a look into the original press kit from the Bobby Wygant archives.

If you'd like to see more of this press kit (and several others we've covered on the show), head on over to their Instagram. They also have a YouTube channel with some in depth essays.
Lastly, let's compare the Pom Pom Girls tapes! First, the one from Video Archives...

Quentin's tape is number 1084 from Video Archives -- and if you take a look at the other Command Performances from VCI you'll notice that Dark Star is featured!
Now here's mine, which was gifted to me by my friend Neil in exchange for a plate of French fries.

Neil is an avid collector, and when he gave me this tape it was in literal perfect condition ... but I'm rough and tumble! Well, to protect if further, he gave me this plastic slip cover. Thanks Neil :-)
Anyhow, see you guys next week for episode 209! Wait, you're looking for your clues? Don't you know that I just ... ahem, spoiled it? Hehe, all jokes aside, see you next week!
xoxo gala
