210.5 Newsletter
Added 2025-03-13 07:00:06 +0000 UTCHi everyone! I'm glad to be back on the mic this week after my cold, and I'm ready to get in to this week's newsletter.
Before we get into the boxes, I don't typically take pictures of the mail we received, but I just had to share a picture of the train!

All of the windows are open, but the slides allow you to close them. And yes, that is the double take pigeon in the top window! That made me hoot and holler when I first saw it.
If you wanted to check out the tattoo sheet (which he also sells prints of), head on over to Josh Torado's instagram. Speaking of tattoos -- here's the one on producer Josh's ribcage that was done on that live episode!

Mailbag episodes are one of the times that I wish we had video ... because I love seeing all of the tactile items you send in. Sometimes I share them on my Instagram story when I'm unpacking them, but typically I don't show things we're going to be talking about on future episodes. Sometimes people send gifts in without a question, and it makes it a little more difficult to talk about ... but don't worry, the guys definitely get everything you give them.
Now, for the boxes.
I have a tape of Lancelot and Guinevere under its alternate title, Sword of Lancelot ... which even though I like this title is a worse one since the entire movie is about Guinevere.

I like this color of the box, and I thought the back of it was pretty good!
My box for Guns of the Magnificent Seven was the same as Quentin's, but he did have this very cool mini poster ... insert ... ?! ... for Guns of the Magnificent Seven. I'm sure one of you guys can tell me exactly what this size of poster is called.

Next we had From Hell to Victory. My back of the box is almost as bad as Quentin's (or could be worse!).

Lastly, I decided to spare everyone from a spam of extra pictures of my trip in Dallas for The Texas Theater events (and honestly I haven't gotten my film back yet!), but as I'm writing my newsletter I clearly need an outlet for my Dallas obsession. If you ever go to the city I love so much, here's a few links to things you should do around there...
One, check out MeowWolf in every city there is one -- I love spending a couple of hours there exploring. Chris from There Are Too Many Movies and I spent the day exploring the installation and had way too much fun.

I did two episodes with those guys while I was in Dallas: one with Roger where we chat about all sorts of things, and another specifically on the film Punch-Drunk Love. Check them out! They're video episodes, which I know a lot of you guys love. There will also be a supplemental episode over on their Patreon where I chat freely about all sorts of secret life things that are not movie related ... but shh, you don't need to know about that! xD
Oh, and how could I forget -- Erik Clapp from Cinema Force took me to my very first "sports game" of my life -- the Mavs game where Kyrie got injured ... it was crazy to watch live. Of course, though, I was busy photographing advertising that reminded me of They Live and thinking that when they chanted "Defense" it sounded like "Netflix".

I also got a chance to go to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on a very empty day since, well, there was a tornado warning (that I slept through) -- but I had so much fun wandering the gardens by myself. The tulips were in full bloom!

On my last full day I took an afternoon and visited the Museum of Biblical Arts in order to see their Dali exhibit which was so awesome to see ... and yes, I walked lazily around all three museums in the building listening to the audio guide and taking pictures of frames. I'll actually be discussing a little bit of this with Dr. Peter Weller next week on The Gala Show, so when the episode drops be sure to check it out :-)
Anyhow, I'll see you guys next week for the full episode -- and as for the Aftershow, well, I promise that I'll be unlocking the Video Vault next week! Keep an eye out for the clue in next week's main episode newsletter. Plus, I have a really cool Video Archives Podcast announcement for you guys that should be dropping on Monday... Any guesses what it could be?
;-) see you guys then! xoxo gala

Sean Baker just made a guest appearance at an Anora screening at the New Bev. Maybe he also recorded an appearance on the VA podcast??
