And though it lacked the outright gore of its video game source material, this adaptation managed to stay faithful to everything else that made the fighting game series a phenomenon. 2023-02-12 13:41:35 +0000 UTCI remember seeing Mortal Kombat in theaters, but it must have been for a friend's birthday because there was no way my parents would have let me see it otherwise. In some ways, I kind of liked that arrangement because it meant getting the thrill of disobeying my folks but in a way devoid of any actual consequences. My friends pulled that same stunt in 2000 when we saw Gladiator in theaters, which I think was my first R rated movie.
