Can I get your opinion on Album Names?

Okay, there are two album names I'm considering for this years studio album. Ones serious and cool, and the other is more campy and imaginative. Can you tell me which of these two excites you more?

First, the Serious:   "Anemoia"

This word means, "Nostalgia for a time you've never know."  Pretty perfect for a steampunk band, actually, and if I don't use it for an album name, it could a least be a great song.

Okay, now here is the campy/fun one:  "The Intergalactic Juke Joint".

The idea here is to have the whole album be kind of space themed, and imply these songs are all from the Juke Box in some cafe on an astroid some where. (see attached image, which is from a music video from the upcoming album.)

Our last album, "The Subaquatic Opera", had a lot of underwater themes, including a video set in submarines. At the time I remember a fan commenting, "This is so cool!  Do Space next!" So I could do that.

So, which do you prefer, "Anemoia" or "The Intergalactic Juke Joint"?

Can I get your opinion on Album Names? Can I get your opinion on Album Names? Can I get your opinion on Album Names?

I do like them both, but right now I would have to go with The Intergalactic Juke Joint

Leland Gaulke

juke joint!

Jenn

Anemonia sounds perfect

Dunkan NoxieNober

Interstellar Juke Joint for the album and Anemoia for one of the songs.

Curtis Potterveld

Anemoia

Pavel Kumeysha

Interstellar Juke Joint. Sounds more exciting, less serious.

David Newport

"Interstellar Juke Joint"

Angela Deane

I'm for the jukebox!

eric hughes

I like both names but like Ed Mattison said "Interstellar Juke Joint sounds better for an album with a space theme."

James Compton

Graeme T has said it all just perfectly. They're both brilliant names. I'm leaning in the campy fun direction though.

Lisa Bearsley

For me they would both suit an album concept or an individual song, though very different feels to either. Anemoia would probably make a better song title than TIJJ, but both are great as an album title as well, so long as the tracks followed suit. Given the years we have been dealing with, a bit of levity with TIJJ is possibly needed more at the moment, but personally I could do with some Anemoia in my life. The final choice is yours and which path your muse takes you. Good luck and fair winds wherever you go Captain.

Graeme Thorburn

To me The Interstellar Juke Joint sounds better for an album with a space theme.

Ed Mattison

God, I can't choose they both sound so good! Can't you do both? Do Juke Joint as a fun, rocky-honky-tonk album, and Anemoia as one of your soulful, dark and brooding albums.

Joshua Skaug

Anemoia. Aside from the pronunciation issues, it fits

Tora

The Intergalactic Juke Joint gets my vote. That and the picture scream Douglas Adams to me. -- I guess I'd need to hear some of the tracks. If the album is serious and dark, Anemoia sounds perfect. Light and a little bit silly? IJJ is the way to go.

Ammon Allen

I like Anemoia, particularly if most of the songs on the album are on the more meaningful/thoughtful side. The Interstellar Juke Joint would be a great song title for a more "fun" track.

David Melton

I once bought a small painting of a harlequin from an artist, and as we talked, he said it was the last one he had left from a series he did of circus people. He said he had to stop painting them because he didn’t want to be known as “The Clown Painter.” One of the best things about Abney Park as a Steampunk band is you can do virtually any genre (and you have!). Right on the heels of Subaquatic Opera (which I love), you might want to move in a different direction, zig after that zag. "Anemoia" is elegant and cool. Who cares how recent its origin? Steampunk is all about making the new old again.

Julian Neal

I like Anemoia as well.

Bryce Carlson

Tough one. You may need pick your favorite for now and save the other for next year's album. Personally, I like funky silly things, so Intergalactic Juke Joint has a certain appeal. How about Juke Joint first, and Anemoia for next year. For Anemoia, I'd recommend including a remix of Born at the Wrong Time.

William Moss

I prefer "Anemoia" as an album title, "Intergalactic Juke Joint" sounds more suited to a song title.

KagatoAMV

I like them both, for different reasons. Sorry I can’t help!

Andrew Kaplan

I like Anemoia, a quick search does show that someone else has used the word as a title for an Album (M O R V E R N). To me, "Intergalactic Juke Box" flows better as an album name. I love both though and I can see both being future albums.

Silver Fox

I think Anemoia would be a serious and beautiful album, maybe a little haunting. You could include a re-record of one or two of your old gothier songs too. Juke Joint sounds cheesy, but because of the concept it works and a space collection would be great as long as they aren't rushed filler songs. I liked the Christmas from Space song on Contraptions. So of course I'd have to say both. Both is good.

Jessica Bradshaw

I like the Juke joint.

Terence L. Turnovsky

Of the two of those, I like Anemoia more -- but I'd like to plead the case of another name: The Steamward Marches. It invokes both the Marches along the English/Scottish borders and reavers stealing cattle, and a deep vein of RPG gaming lore from Traveller. The Spinward Marches are on the frontier of a huge Imperium, with the dangerous foe of the Zhodani, the wild Sword Worlders and more. There's also a dedicated following that needs to know more of the cog...

Alan Peery

So, I am leaning towards The Intergalactic Juke Joint. I actually did some research on the word Anemoia. I was curious about it and I really like the sound of it. In the research, I found that it was coined in a project called the dictionary of obscure sorrows in 2012. I really like the idea of the word and the feeling that it invokes, but I am too scholastic to be tied to a word that has only existed for ten years (despite the fact that Shakespeare made up words all the time).

Tarren Renn

TIJJ would be my preference. I'll buy both when they come out.

Michael Kohne

The Intergalactic Juke Joint sounds fun and cool to me. :)

Tony Parisi

The Intergalactic Juke Joint gets me more excited just from the name, but being real, I'm in for either.

Alli Martin

Just because you already have the album cover made, the third picture, I vote for "The Intergalactic Juke Joint"

Philip Stevens

Gotta be 'The Intergalactic Juke Joint' . Sounds so cool 😎

Dave Ross

Of the two, "The Intergalactic Juke Joint" really excites me. I'm immediately intrigued about what music I'll find. "Anemoia" is a cool word and it makes me interested, but I don't have the same immediate excitement about what the album is about because it's not a word I use regularly.

David Lee Summers

Anemoia

Mickie Erickson

I like Anemoia (pronounced Annie-moy-yah?), but TIJJ is a good one too. Animoia sounds more wistful, so I would guess which title you pick should be based on the feel of the album. If it's more introspective and wistful than fun and wild, totally go with Animoia. If it's more adventure/fun songs, TIJJ is your best choice. Both should get used at some point though.
