Abney Park has been releasing our own take on Electroswing for years. One of the ways we get that huge sound during recording, is we'll layer many tracks of brass, but since we only have one horn player, its harder to get that sound live. At many of our super huge concerts we've brought in an additional trombone player, but we've never performed with a full brass section. Until now!
For one show only, June 29th, 2024, we are adding a full brass section to Abney Park. This will be the largest lineup we've ever had, and the result should be a sonic masterpiece, and a whole lot of fun.
Don't miss it, and make sure you buy the audio download of this show, as this will likely not occur again! (All that talent is expensive!)

How did Abney Park get into Electroswing?
Long before there was such a thing as electroswing, Abney Park was a gothic band. In the 90's, it was hip for lots of music genres to sample sounds, and dialog from movies, and other recordings. As a gothic band, we'd sample from old horror movies, or old time radio shows, and mix those sounds into our music to flavor things.
Well, when we went through our whole Steampunk Revolution, I bought an old gramophone, and some old Lacquer records. Listening to those very old recordings, I thought, "I should sample from these disks, and move that sound into the music! Whats more steampunk than sampling from a gramophone??
The result actually ended up being the definition of Electroswing: Electronic dance beats, with sampled swing band elements.

Early on, I had a small house in a slummy neighborhood in Tacoma, Washington. My neighbor was a 90 year old man, who late at night would sit on his back porch and play jazz trumpet. That grindy, sultry muted style. Hearing this, I thought, "I need this sound in my music!" SO I put an ad in the newspaper (newspapers were like the internet, preprinted on flattened trees.) The ad read:
"Wanted: Trumpet player for a rock band. Must be able to sound like a 90 year old trumpet player." Only one person answered the ad, and thats how we found our trumpet player Carey!
