My draft prep for a triple punt strategy (taking Luka in the first round)

Hey everyone,

I just completed my home league draft last night (a league where I've been playing with the same group of people since forever), and I figured I'd share some of my quick draft prep notes since we're heading into the final draft weekend of the fantasy basketball season.

The league is a standard 9 category head to head league (don't try this strategy if you're in a roto league, and it won't apply to those in a points league).

I like to start my prep by hopping into a few mock drafts with the pick I have to get an idea of who will be available in each round, and making a tiered list of players to target on a Google doc / notepad file.

I had pick 5 in the draft, and since I know all of the people in our league are aggressive punters (some have tried punting 4 categories), I wanted to be a little aggressive with a triple punt if Luka was available.

It's important to note that you shouldn't be ignoring players if they have a great FG% or FT% if they're also elite in the categories you need them for.

Here is how my tiered list of draft targets looked for those who wanna try the strategy out in a Yahoo mock draft. The idea is to ignore both shooting %s and TOs so high usage guys become more valuable.

Tier 1: Luka Doncic

Tier 2: Paul George / LeBron James

Tier 3: Cade Cunningham / Pascal Siakam / Ja Morant

Tier 4: Kristaps Porzingis / Evan Mobley (targeting blocks)

Tier 5: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander / Mikal Bridges / OG Anunoby (targeting 3s and steals)

Tier 6: Julius Randle / PJ Washington

Tier 7: Kevin Porter Jr / Kyle Lowry (targeting steals, 3s and assists)

Tier 8: Jabari Smith Jr / Robert Covington (targeting 3s and blocks)

Tier 9: Jaren Jackson Jr / Jalen Smith (this is where I like to target an injured player to stash on my IL to open up a spot on my roster to stream or take a flyer on a hot WW add)

Tier 10: RJ Barrett

I then go into my draft and add all of the players on my tiered list to my queue, and keep tabs of the draft using the draft tracker in the premium league tools section to get an overall view of how the teams in the league are looking, and to keep tabs of the available players.

This post will run you through how I list to use the draft tracker:

While this is by no means me telling you how to draft (it's only something you'd consider in specific scenarios), I thought it would be a fun thing to share for you to try out in a mock draft.

Good luck with your drafts if you're drafting this weekend!

Joey
