I don't know if you noticed, but you've actually known the name of the mother for quite a while. I believe it was in season 2, where Ted and barney was at a strip club and a stripper introduced herself to Ted, telling him her name was Tracy, and Ted syched out his children telling them that that was how he med their mother. It makes me a little sad that you had that strong a reaction against the ending, even though I understand and respect why people don't like Ted and Robin ending up together, I liked the mother better with Ted than Robin too, but I think I understand what the writers were going for and I like it. I think what they wanted the message to be, and what the message has been throughout the entire show, was that life happens. It is not perfect, it takes twists and turns, ups and downs. It has tragedies and celebrations. But in the end it takes you where it wants and if you let it, you might not like it as much as you would if you had been in control, but enjoy the ride and you might be happy in the end.

2022-10-28 19:49:15 +0000 UTCI had a feeling you would really hate the ending... I remember watching the last episode a few days after it aired. I had not been spoiled but I had come across really negative reviews of the finale... As a great Barney and Robin shipper this episode felt like being slapped in the face... to this day, I still don't get how you could break up the best ship and arguably one of the most loved among the fans. It just doesn't make sense to me. I barely remember if Robin and Ted were a popular ship or not back then, but a friend of mine who liked them as a couple was also really disappointed by the ending because it just felt really forced. Another thing I hate is how they hit the reset button with Barney... over the past seasons, he's had great character development and they flushed it down the toilet in the last 2 episodes... also, he loved that Robin was an independent woman and so it makes no sense that all of a sudden he hated it. Barney with his daughter would have been a much more moving scene if Barney had not reverted to his old self to get there. I think, what could have been a good reason to break Robin and Barney up, would have been the fact that Barney wanted kids and Robin didn't. This would have been a devastating storyline but it would have worked so much better. As someone who never wants to have kids, I would find it believable for Robin to not change her mind about it over the years. I get it and just like with Kevin, it would have been so heartbreaking. Then Barney becoming a dad with Nora or Queen would have been an acceptable ending for me. The only two things I have no problem with are Marshall and Lilly, them having a 3rd kid and Marshall becoming a judge was perfect. And of course, everything with the mom. I would have loved to see an entire season with Tracy, she's so lovable and they're perfect with Ted. All their scenes are some of my faves this season. The meeting is absolutely perfect with them arguing over the umbrella, the same yellow umbrella that's been appearing since season 1, that each time it appeared, a message of hope always followed. It was just a perfect scene. The death was too rushed, we didn't see Ted grieve or even a funeral... although it would have broken me... The problem, as others have mentioned, it that the ending had been decided when they were filming season 2. The last scene with the kids had to be filmed earlier on and that's why it really feels disconnected from everything that happened afterwards. Not sure why the writers decided that Ted would end up with Robin so early on. Not sure if at some point they questioned changing that ending after seeing how popular Barney and Robin were. It's a shame really, giving us such good stories, character development over the years and then messing up the ending so badly... I don't even think it's bad writing but it was really poor planning. Himym ending has won lots of polls for worst ending in a tv show ever... For me, if the mother still had to die, my perfect ending would have been Ted getting back together with Victoria. I think among all the women he dated, she was the best one after the mom. And with Robin married to Barney (because they never divorced in my perfect ending) Victoria would have no reason to ever feel like Ted would cheat again. Robin wad the reason they broke up. But if I could change one thing about the ending, I'd save Tracy and we'd have the scene of the beach house with Lilly, Marshall, Ted, Tracy, Barney and Robin old and catching up on their lives. It's been really enjoyable watching your reactions every week. What a journey it's been!! I will always remember how you lost it in the scene when Robin talked about her dog turning into a turtle, I still go back to that reaction when I need a good laugh 😂 Can't wait for the bts reactions. There was also a clip with the kids that was a special scene which was so funny. I'll try to find the link for you.
