Sometimes, it's not about being ashamed, it's about being exhausted, about constantly having to correct people or knowing that you're name is going to be butchered and being surrounded by people who laugh and/or join in. Some people are resilient enough and will choose that life, others will tap out and use their English names for the sake of peace! CONGRATULATIONS though boys! Going to a Midlands uni in the 2010s was a TIME.

Rewind about 5-6 years ago a cousin I never met (same surname as mine) hits me up on Facebook and out of curiosity I ask her "how is our surname actually pronounced?" She tells me and it isn't pronounced the way my dad told me. Name comes from my mothers side of the family. I would get so pissed and loudly correct people when they would butcher my surname. Turns out I was wrong too
