The utter lack of motherly love and empathy from the Queen is so heartbreaking. We have never seen her say I love you or hug Wilhelm. Wilhelm hugging the headmistress was such a painful reminder of how starved for affection Wilhelm was. His parents gave him no support or time to grieve and sent him back to the boarding school that we was fairly new to because it was "a familiar environment" unlike his own home. His connection with Simon is seemingly the only genuine connection and love he's ever felt apart from his brother. By the end of the episode Wilhelm has lost basically everyone that he could turn to for support, except for Felice, although their friendship isn't really super close at this point. To me, the beauty of this show is the "gray" nature of all the characters. Nobody is totally good or totally bad, but they are all very genuine.

She could’ve gone to Willie or her bestie Felice for help or to tell them what she knew. Nope! August, the queen and Sara have strange notions on how to treat family. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the series.
