Some of these translations are so off, they're really getting to me. I'm Swedish so I watched without subtitles. Some translations just gives an entirely different meaning than what was actually said. Also, I neither excuse or forgive the things August has done in this show (I mean they were MINORS for fuck's sake), but there's no denying that he is incredibly sweet with Sara๐ฅน.

Felice has said multiple times that Sara is the only authentic person there. Sara helped her realize how fake everybody can be in those social circles. Wilhelm feels the same about Simon He is always saying that Simon is the only person that he can actually talk to. The way that Henry and Walter kept trying to suck up to Wilhelm by changing their opinions to agree with him and parrot whatever he said is a perfect example. And that pretense is basically everywhere in Wilhelm's life, including his home life. He has been so sheltered, in an effort to keep up appearances in the royal family, that he really doesn't know how to navigate relationships and social encounters, which leads him to, as you say, fuck a lot of things up.
