I didn't know I could drink saltwater! All those opportunities, wasted.

Season 3 is when thinks actually start getting good

Peter Van der Heijden

I have been waiting months for you to get started on Season 3.

Aye bro it’s not that deep

Desert Espada

I feel like deleting an entire section of the magic system to fix the story problems it would cause is a terrible idea. We both agree that Korra just being able to end any fight by throwing fire at people and horribly maiming them is an issue, imagine if they got around that by just deleting firebending

I knew some brainlet Redditor was gonna make this comment but I didn’t think it’d literally be the second one

@wbhuser it's very plausible that there would be new benders. But there's hundreds of new benders from the three dominant styles every week from the million+ people that live on the planet. As for why mainly airbending, it could be the spiritual side (even though water bending apparently has water spirit-bending, lol), ooooor... My personal theory: it could be Jinora's will reflected in a bunch of minor spirits that decided to inhabit people, either at random or by being some sort of spiritual openness.

“Mako does things that are way over the line and is rewarded for it” oh so like cops in real life then

Interested to hear your thoughts on the Airbending awakening in the future. In my head canon, it (and bending in general) always made sense to be as kind of a genetics thing. Take Mako and Bolin for example - their parents were from the fire nation and earth kingdom, so its possible that their Mom would carry a recessive gene for firebending, and their Dad would carry a gene for earthbending. Almost a 'bending potential' gene. You may or may not get bending, but you have the potential for it. So in the case of Mako and Bolin, Mako got the firebending gene, only dominant - and Bolin got the earthbending gene, also dominant. And my head canon was always that the people that got airbending were people with theses same recessive 'potential bending' genes - descended from air nomads who secretly survived the purge or air nomad defectors. So in my head, these people had air bending heritage (like Bumi, being son of an Airbender) just had their 'potential bending' gene changed from dormant to active. I realize now, the only issue with this theory is that why would this just effect airbending? If there was a trait that happend to carry bending potential - it should affect other nations and bending types as well, not just airbending. Not sure what makes airbending special in that only it would be affected by harmonic convergence. Why were there not new benders from the other kingdoms? Maybe there were, and we just dont hear about them in the show? But it does raise the question (even without my theory of genes) why would airbending be the only bending type affected by Harmonic convergence?

Yeah, the timeline of Avatar, especially the 10,000 years thing introduced in Korra, has always bothered me as well. I also have had the thought about the number of Avatars thing, but another thing that has always bothered me is how slowly technology advanced between Wan and Korra. Wan seems to take place in a feudal Japan setting (lets be really generous and date that to roughly 1000BCE in our world), while Korra appears to be around the 1920s or 30s. So in our time, it took us 3000 years to get there, but here it took 10,000? Its crazy that in a span of 10,000 years, in a world where people can LITERALLY bend the elements of the world, that the world has improved so little technologically. Perhaps bending doesn't force innovation and technological advancements as rapidly as being a normal old human does? But yeah, the time stuff has always bothered me too.

I didn’t expect season 3 so soon! Awesome

Zaheer is so overrated in my opinion

Pogger White

Been waiting for this since you started on Korra. Zaheer alone makes this season better than any of the others.

Even though we're done with season 2 I'm curious about your thoughts on the amount of Avatars allegedly the universe had throughout the time. They make it seem like there have been thousands of Avatars, but if there's 10,000 years between Wan and Korra and on average, say, an Avatar lives 50 years (which is being generous if you think that people can live up to +200 years), then the math suggests there have been about 200 Avatars since Wan. This has been bothering me forever.

I finally joined your patreon! I love your Korra series, 100% as good as your original cover of the Gaang. My unpopular take is preferring TLOK to ATLA.

Thiregan Pather

Korra is the epitome of the “just wait till season 3 that’s when it gets good” kind of show

kissbubbly

Imagine if we could have had a scene where Aang saw the new Airbenders and saw his reaction what a great moment that could be.

Hjalmar Skyt Nielsen

Been waiting for this season since season one

Everyone, it was a long journey but we're finally here (Also long hair bearded Zaheer supremacy)
