Happy 4th of July (to those who celebrate it)! Today as an exercise I decided to do some sketches based on photos taken by a remarkable photographer named Earth , who goes to fairgrounds in the US and captures candid shots of the people there. Her work reminds me to always be building a visual library in my mind of a wide variety of faces - too often I think illustrators (particularly in “popular” mediums like comics/animation/fan art/etc) rely on a standard couple of faces and rarely explore the true range of structures that exist. I also think it’s always valuable to not always focus on the exceptionally “beautiful“ and also explore average people who are just as fascinating in their own right. Check out Earth’s work and use it for your own studies!
