Fetishnale - Dee Restraint I (Process)
Added 2024-03-08 11:38:42 +0000 UTCWhen I was invited to participate in the Berlin Fetishnale art show, I knew that I wanted to involve Dee in some way. She and I have been close for many years and she has been a muse to me for even longer. But while in the past I have typically just drawn her from her own self-portraiture, this time I wanted to have more of an active collaboration. I asked her if she would be interested in working together and was thrilled that she was so enthusiastic about it.
I started by sending her a variety of thumbnail concept sketches of poses she might try. This piece came from the following thumbnail:
In return she sent me a variety of posed photos based on the thumbnail, of which I selected this one (posted here with permission):
I wanted to avoid doing just a straight recreation of the photo and something a little more interpretive. I started by adjusting the pose a bit for some more tension:

I printed this out at A2 size and inked it, but there was something that wasn’t quite working for me, and so I decided to start over (unfortunately I tore up this stage before taking a photograph of it).
I changed the composition a bit and revised the harness and replaced the bar:
Still not quite there! Something about the composition still wasn’t working for me so I pulled out slightly:
I much preferred the larger black box in the background and the black stockings added some more compositional interest. I finally felt that this was correct and so I printed it off and inked it!
