A few baseball movies and other sports movies you might enjoy:
Bull Durham (1988)
For Love of the Game (1999)
Mystery, Alaska (1999)
Redbelt (2008)
And I enjoyed the series Ted Lasso but I know that’s not for everyone

Older Geena Davis was played by a different actress but voiced over by Geena! Also, she's 6 feet tall! I'm surprised neither if y'all called out Doris being played by Rosie O'Donnell!

Underrated Geena Davis movie: Cutthroat Island. Great pirate adventure from the director of The Long Kiss Goodnight!

I laughed SO hard when Dan thought Lori Petty was Madonna and Sam was like no way and Dan doubled down with 99% and I’m thinking as Sam leans in squinting, she needs to make a diaper bet with Dan right now!

Madonna did do a lot more movies. Many where she was the lead. It's just that A League of their Own is her only good one.
PS: And don't at me with Dick Tracy in the comments people. She sucks in that too and the film is a mixed-bag.

I recognized the actor who played Ira was the same guy who was the bad guy Noah in the Bourne ultimatum

Well, you actually already have another Geena Davis movie under your belts with “Beetlejuice”. 🙂 Glad you liked this one—I took my first girlfriend to see it way back in 92. God I’m old.

Older Dottie was played by Lynn Cartwright based on her resemblance to Geena Davis. I was astonished to learn this as I thought it was Geena Davis in makeup!

Would love you to watch a movie starring Madonna, Evita is a good one.

I don’t think Dottie dropped the ball on purpose. Her personality is not one that would lend itself to 1) letting down her team by intentionally losing the game and 2) giving her sister a hollow victory.
I’m not a fan of Kit, but I think it completely destroys her story by having Dottie bail her out when it matters most.

Just joined to watch this. Amazing film, Geena, Tom, Madonna, Rosie knocked it out of the park (if you will)

assuming you haven't seen it, one of my favorite childhood movies "Stuart Little" (1999) just a fun wholesome film, Geena Davis plays the Mom and that's all I'll say lol

This and Thelma and Louise are definitely the best Gena Davis moves. Although Earth Girls are Easy is a cult favorite of mine

From what I gathered in the subtitles, which aren’t always right I know, Dottie and Kitt weren’t estranged between then. At the end one of the grandkids that Kitt has says “hi Aunt Dottie!” And a family member taking the picture is referred to as “little Dottie” so I would assume there’s still closeness, just not as close as when they were younger.
And I know I’m in the minority in this, and so many people get upset about it, but I don’t think Dottie dropped the ball on purpose. Off the field, Dottie supports Kitt. On the field, it’s go time! lol Dottie doesn’t hold her hand when they play, she gives it to her straight. And I agree with you all that Kitt just came into her own and broke through Dottie’s shadow. As amazing of a player and as competitive as Dottie is, Kitt was determined. Kitt’s face coming around 3rd base said IM TAKING IT while Dottie’s face said OH SHIT lol
My favorite movie ever, I’m so glad you all watched it!
Fun Fact: that bruise Alice got on her upper thigh/hip area after sliding into 3rd was REAL! 😬

I'm so glad, Sam, you said this is one you'd stop and watch if it's on tv, because that's EXACTLY how I've seen all or part of it at least a couple dozen times. Infinitely rewatchable!

Yeah she did drop the ball on purpose ,it showed the very similar scene in the middle of the movie where Dottie got ran in to at home plate by a runner and she held on to the ball and did not even flinch.
Dottie also gave Kit the chance to hit the ball in the first place, she told the pitcher to throw high fast balls at Kit ,because she knew Kit loves to swing at the high fast balls,as was reveled at the beginning of the movie.

One of my favorite Geena Davis movies: Beetlejuice (1988 Warner Bros.)...it's not just a Geena Davis movie; it's also got Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder, and--of course--Michael Keaton.

Love this movie. "Wow! 'Avoid the clap - Jimmy Dugan.'" "Wow!" "That's good advice." Sloppy, dirty, fucked-up Tom Hanks may just be my favorite Tom Hanks.

Also really crazy how many Hall of Fame baseball players and huge actors in their primes went to war. Not people who served and then became famous, but were famous when they joined the war. Jimmy Stewart (A Wonderful Life) especially, as he had already won an Oscar and then was an active fighter pilot (I know, thanks for that special insight into his life).

My favorite scene is Marla Hooch and her dad in the beginning, makes me tear up every time. And Ann Cusack looking for her name when she can't read yet. So well played.

Thelma & Louise (1991) is arguably the quintessential Geena Davis film. It also stars Susan Sarandon and is directed by Ridley Scott.

For another good baseball movie, you should check out:
“Bing Long Traveling All Stars and Motor Kings” (1976)
It stars James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor.
It’s the only movie with Darth Vader and Lando Calrissian playing on the same team. 😁

To answer your question for the older actors: Casting. No make-up! And Geena Davis voice was dubbed in! And the catcher has to apply the tag and hold onto the ball. She tagged her, but dropped the ball. The runner was safe! :)
