2026-01-06 16:18:39 +0000 UTCI have no idea how to figure out if this is true or not, but I could have sworn I remembered learning that the Gulf of Tonkin incident wasn’t so much fabricated as exaggerated. Some ship was struck by small arms fire that could never, really, have threatened the ship in any real way, and it was used to justify actions the administration already wanted to pursue. I guess it’s a small distinction, but it’s also not quite the same thing as a conspiracy to fabricate an event.
