“Oh my god, where did you get that?” Barry stared wide-eyed at the grenade in Harley's hand.

“That's none of your business, but I can assure you this thing is way more useful than a magic wand.” Harley raised an eyebrow playfully, tossing the grenade known as the "Soviet Union Little Lemon" up and down in her hand, making Barry and Little Bruce uneasy.

“You're not planning to use that thing against the Tree Demon, are you?” Little Bruce hesitated before asking, and Barry glared at Harley, saying, “You can’t do that; it could destroy the classroom!”

“Of course not,” Harley shook her head, confidently saying, “The buildings here are made by little spirits from the Maya world, and the materials used are different from those in ordinary human society; they’re much stronger!”

“But blowing up a school with a grenade is just absurd.”

“Don't tell me you’ve never thought about it.”

Barry fell silent, sneaking a glance around. Even the most obedient children occasionally feel like skipping school; who hasn’t thought about blowing up a school when they were kids?

“Stop wasting time; we need to hurry to the canteen, eat before everyone else, and then go to the library to check out the materials.”

Without saying more, the three quickly made their way to the canteen. The daily meals at Magic College weren’t as varied as during a feast, but there was still plenty of bread, roasted meats, and stewed vegetables. Plates piled high filled the tables, and the first three to arrive at the table eagerly selected steaming hot dishes before quickly finishing their meal.

However, on their way to the library, they encountered an unexpected person: Director Bruce Wayne from Wayne College.

“Are you all going to the library? Be careful when passing by the main castle; I heard some students have already been injured.”

Under the gaze of Bruce Wayne’s blue eyes, Barry felt a bit uncomfortable, but the concern for the students and faint hint of worry in them felt genuine.

Barry could only nod in response, “Don’t worry, Professor, we won’t go to the fourth floor.”

“Of course, I believe you’re all good children who follow school rules. I just don’t quite understand why Principal Jim would place such an important magic stone in the school; it’s not good for the students’ safety.”

“You don’t know why Night Master Jim put the magic stone in the school?” Harley immediately stepped forward to ask.

Bruce was taken aback for a moment, then nodded and said, “I haven’t known Night Master Jim for long. If I had to say, only Professor Constantine and Professor Rodriguez are old friends of Night Master in this school.”

Little Bruce and Barry exchanged glances. Barry politely said goodbye to Bruce Wayne, and they continued toward the library, with Little Bruce speculating as they walked.

“Wayne seems very young, so he might not be from the same generation as Constantine, Rodriguez, and Night Master. He probably wasn’t involved in the design of this trial.”

“He seems quite friendly,” Barry shrugged and said, “I actually like the bat doll he gave me.”

“He has stolen the hearts of almost all the girls in the college,” Harley yawned and said, “The night he sent the bat doll, Spencer dragged me into gossiping about his romantic history for half the night.”

As they chatted, they had already entered the library, which was a circular spire at the end of the main castle, comprising seven floors filled with densely packed bookshelves.

The three began searching for materials related to Night Master Jim, which was easy to find since Jim was quite a famous figure in the magical realm. His Oblivion Bar was the distribution point for news in the entire magical realm; almost every Archmage capable of publishing would mention him in their works.

Before long, their desks were piled high with books. Bruce was flipping through the pages at a quantum speed, Harley was equally busy, while Barry, knowing he didn’t have such reading ability, helped by jotting down useful knowledge.

By the time night fell completely, Little Bruce finally looked up from the mountain of books. His eyes seemed a bit vacant, clearly recalling the materials he had just read, and then he summarized.

“Night Master Jim has a great reputation; almost all sorcerers think he is a very fair yet forgiving person. The Oblivion Bar he established provided a platform for sorcerers to communicate with each other, but unfortunately, this bar was destroyed in the previous war of the magical realm.”

Harley continued his thoughts, “Principal Jim is currently leaving the school to go rebuild the Oblivion Bar. He wants to unite the remaining forces of the magical realm to demand the rewards they deserve from the Angels and Demons.”

“The materials show that he once saved the Magic World of Maya and possesses a very powerful weapon. When vampires ravaged London, his team saved many people, as noted in Master Andrew’s manuscript,” Barry read from his notes.

“Well, he shouldn’t have any issues,” Little Bruce thought for a moment and said, “If there is truly a conspiracy behind the trial concerning the magic stone, he might be the one who’s been deceived.”

“Remember what Director Wayne said?” Barry grabbed Little Bruce’s arm and said, “Night Master Jim, Director Rodriguez, and Professor Constantine are old friends. Could they have organized this trial?”

“Who else could it be?” Harley placed the last book she held on top of the tall pile of books and said, “I heard Professor Strange is also an outsider. Director Zatara, Director Wayne, and Professor Pamela are all quite young, and Lady Shangdu isn’t human. At most, we could include Master Andrew.”

Little Bruce stroked his chin and said, “Perhaps some of them genuinely want to set up a trial to help students understand that they shouldn’t blindly follow authority and should actively stand up for human interests.”

“But not everyone thinks that way; perhaps some want Jim to place the magic stone in the school with impure motives.”

Little Bruce lightly tapped the paper with his fingertip and speculated, “Night Master Jim placed the magic stone in some room in the school, believing that only certain bold and reckless students would try to steal it. Therefore, the level of defense they set up wouldn’t be too high because they’re guarding against students, not professors.”

“But if some professor had guided Jim to make this decision early on, making him think that only students would try to steal the magic stone, thus intentionally leaving it undefended, that professor could take this opportunity to steal the magic stone. The defenses against students wouldn’t stop a professor.”

“Are you saying Professor Rodriguez?”

“He’s quite suspicious, isn’t he?”

“But what does he want the magic stone for? You don’t really think he’s being controlled by Angels and Demons, do you?” Harley questioned.

“I didn’t tell you this, but before we got involved in this matter, I ran into him in the corridor of the Director’s office. I told him about the angel I had seen using Divine Power Runes.”

Barry was somewhat shocked and opened his mouth, but Little Bruce quickly said, “But he guessed more before this. At first, I thought it might be mind reading or some kind of magic, but then I realized he might have intentionally made me think that. The truth is he understood certain things about me from another perspective.”

“Another perspective? What do you mean?”

“If he has a way to communicate with the Angel, then he can naturally see my connection with the Angel from the Angel's perspective, right?”

“That seems a bit far-fetched,” Barry shook his head and said, “I’d rather believe it’s a mind-reading spell. After all, Professor Rodriguez is a world-renowned master of psychology. If he could read minds, then everything would make sense.”

“But we must remain skeptical. We…”

Just as Little Bruce was saying this, his movements suddenly paused, his body swayed in the chair, almost falling off. Then he covered his forehead and rested his elbows on the desktop to support himself.

“What’s wrong?” Harley asked as he supported him.

“Nothing, I just felt a bit dizzy for a moment,” Little Bruce took a deep breath and shook his head in confusion, but he quickly seemed lost in thought again.

“I think you got dizzy from reading too fast and exhausting yourself. Otherwise, we should hurry back to rest,” Barry jumped down from his chair and said.

“No, you guys forgot? We still have to work tonight; we need to go to Professor Pamela’s to clean the storage room.”

“Oh my God!” Barry covered his forehead and said, “If it weren’t for you two constantly getting into trouble, why would I have to do this?”

“Stop complaining. We need to go early and come back to sleep early so we won’t have trouble getting up tomorrow morning.”

Barry wasn’t someone who liked to complain, and Little Bruce didn’t say much either due to not feeling well. After the three of them put the books back in place, they set off toward the greenhouse again under the night sky.

The garden at night looked less lush and vibrant than during the daytime. In contrast, various plants under the night’s shadow evoked images of sinister claws.

Barry, holding a lantern, rubbed his arms, almost jumping when a tree branch scraped his arm.

“Can you not overreact?” Little Bruce frowned and said with some disdain.

“I just felt a bit… never mind, let’s hurry up.”

Barry swallowed and quickened his pace. The three of them hurried toward the light of the small house in the distance and soon arrived at the nearby greenhouse.

Just as they were about to enter the yard of the house, Little Bruce quickly grabbed Harley, hiding behind the wall and peering out, pointing to the gate.

In the light at the entrance, the three saw a person in a black robe open the door and walk inside. From the body shape, it was definitely not Professor Pamela, but a man.

“Follow him,” Little Bruce whispered.

The three of them carefully made their way along the wall to the back door, where there was a whole patch of climbing plants. They climbed up onto the wall using the thicker vines and saw the man in the black robe picking plants from the small garden in the yard.

“Do you remember what was discussed in class? Boiling Spiral Grass with deer blood and Strange Cabbage helps accelerate the healing of open wounds,” Harley said in a low voice.

“He’s taking the cotyledons of Strange Cabbage,” Little Bruce craned his neck to look inside and said, watching the man in the black robe, “He’s picking herbs that can be used to brew healing ointments.”

“Is that Professor Rodriguez?” Barry asked, somewhat skeptically, but because they were too far away and the man was bundled tightly in the black robe, they really couldn’t tell who he was.

“He’s coming over; hurry, hurry, get down.”

The three jumped down from the vines and exchanged glances before Barry said,

“We should go back first. Tomorrow morning, let’s come back early to check what plants are missing. If they really are just materials for making healing medicine, then he must want to use them to treat the wounds on his arm caused by the Tree Demon.”
