Interesting observation!

Troll metal is a great nickname!

Jaron Geil

Sorry I'm late, I've just been catching up with your full concert reactions - and really enjoying your commentary and insights. On the white costumes, As others have said, white represents death or rebirth or something and there are just a small handful of occasions where they have dressed in white, each time at a point of change for them. This was their last solo concert while still being a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin - the next concert they did would be after the separation and as an independent band. At Legend 1997, the last stage of their separation from SG and transformation to independent band, Yui and Moa appear dressed in white for the opening ceremony. In 2016 they appeared as figures dressed all in white in the official mv for 'Karate'. That was the lead single for the second album and another point of change as they progressed their style with the new album - which was a step forward from the first album which consisted of some new songs but had all the songs they had released while they were members of Suakra Gakuin. In 2023 there were 3 figures dressed in white singing backing vocals on their First Take performance of 'Monochrome'. That was the last video they released as the original BABYMETAL (less Yui of course) before they revealed the "new" BABYMETAL at the BABYMETAL Begins concerts where they introduced Momometal as the new third member. Of course that is just my own interpretation. It makes sense to me, it may be complete nonsense.

Because of the countdown we've joked Kobametal is also troll-metal, misleading fans. :-)

I've joked "bad dad for it operation" was created after contract negotiations, because Kobametal is also known as the 'tour dad' and maybe they and their parents asked for to much. Because many Babymetal songs have a parallel to real life about the girls, but often we don't know what. Babymetal in white signals rebirth. Because white robes means burial robes and some other symbolism which I don't know right now... anyway, Babymetal will just spend their live performance budget any time they can. After this song they went on a small tour in Japan with the live Kami band, even smaller venues, sadly no recordings. The editor of a premier "Metal God of Japan" metal magazine (Burrn) in Japan was at 1 of those shows: Metalheads all around the world were grieving. On the 2nd of may Slayer's Jeff Hannemann passed away. He died at the early age of 49. A week later I went to Osaka. By watching BABYMETAL I hoped to alleviate my sadness a little. BIG CAT is located in アメリカ村(America mura), that is an area in Osaka near Shinsaibashi. As I entered the venue there were a lot of brothers wearing Metal T-shirts and somehow it made me at ease. There is a passion for Metal in Kansai, which has produced lots of bands, including Loudness. I saw many people wearing T-shirts with bands like Metallica and Megadeth. BABYMETAL's T-shirts are nice with good designs, but it was also a pleasure to discover the various band T-shirts that were at this venue. The concert was sold out, of course. When I was entering, "Raining Blood" was playing as background music. A tribute to Jeff?... You remembered it? It brought tears to my eyes. I saw the Thailand Tour, and I remember how I, Masanori Ito, became nostalgic and started thinking about Motörhead's "Violently Live". ("Violently live" = "No sleep till Hammersmith"?!) (This sentence is probably wrong - just forget this sentence - nothing to see here!) "This is Heavy Metal Death Match!" That famous phrase came to mind. It's the first time this band is touring with a full live band for each show and each song, and there is a story that develops for each show. And this is the first concert of the tour. Of course I'm exited! It's also the first time they perform live the way they did in the "YouTube"-video. BABYMETAL, what the hell are you going to show us?! The narration began: "The "Revolution" goes beyond the eyes and challenges to imagine a new self" "In order to regain the respect of Metal, taken away by the magical powers of A-KIBA, BABYMETAL faces a new trial" Together with the kindred souls here in "BIG CAT", they will take the "Flying V" that is a "Metal Ark", on a journey of training..." Indeed, the creation of a universe continues. "Are you prepared?. It's the beginning of the "May Revolution"". Everybody in the audience showed the fox-sign and cheered. The Three arrived and started with "Doki Doki ☆ Morning". Of course the live band was wonderful. The volume was high and the sound was heavy. I could really feel the "Rock"! The voice of SU-METAL pierced effortlessly through the loud volume of the band. In the following "Catch Me If You Can" there were more extreme soundbursts. The Three's effortless movements and lively facial expressions improved the expressiveness. It certainly made it more powerful. Halfway through, the members left the scene for a break, and a female violinist megitsune appeared. During the break she played Chopin's "Revolutionary Étude" together with the band. It created a passionate and solemn atmosphere. The cute performance of YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL, and the beautiful voice of SU-METAL created an exiting 2nd half. Probably because the venue was small compared to Tokyo, it was full of fierce enthusiasm and the humidity felt high. In the final stage there were three "Killer Tunes". When everyone was totally spent, The Three left the stage dashingly. "BABYMETAL went on a journey of training to acquire the "True Metal" of the legendary "Metal Master"". "In Japan they met Himiko (resembles James (Hetfield)), and they got "Speed"". The background music of this video was Metallica style, it was really well made. Then the trailer for the next venue was showed, and that was the end. Finally I would like to note that the Osaka audience was absolutely awesome. The joy that The Three gave was represented by going full-out moshing. After the show, since the show didn't have encores, the applause stopped after a while.

Off-topic, Youtube doesn't like links in comments, but here is an interview with DAIDAI of Paledusk with a slight Babymetal perspective you might like: https://stechen.blogspot.com/2024/12/blog-post.html

Hi Jaron, another great reaction, you can really see their development by going in chronological order. Also, it is interesting seeing the storyline of their lore develop as well. Just a guess, but the white costume (that's the first time I have seen that) might represent death. The Shinto faith requires you to dress the dead in a bleached white Kimonos. Perhaps this explains why the white costume was rolled out when they played Babymetal Death. This also might be why the Kami Band was originally dressed in white shrouds. I'm not certain of this being the reason, but it makes sense to me.

Len Cooke

Love going through these shows in chronological order with you. I've watched a few BABYMETAL shows but it's cool seeing how things evolved from the very beginning!

What i love about the 3 concerts that make up the I,D,Z set, As Jaron pointed out you can see where the money was going, The ladies outfits, the lighting, the sound, and stage setup, are all an indications of how much care and deadication was put into BABYMETAL from day one. We may need to keep an eye on Jaron he seems to be developing strong feelings for Baby"floppyassstick"Bones The Babybones drummer.. :P As to the white dresses.. there is much history and Lore around the band, It could take a year or so to write it here so. So I think its time for the BABYMETAL Guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIb2xEthdSg This is a 37 and a half min video that lays out the birth and history of BABYMETAL all the way up to Apr 2, 2024. This would give you all the info and dip your toes into the Lore about Team Babymetal. Anyway Great reaction Jaron

tilbury_99

Definitely agree! Thanks!

Jaron Geil

Damn, the dancing in these early shows during some songs like Iine is so energetic! I must say, I like the kamishibai (picture story) bits between the songs. They create a cool atmosphere, are just fun and give the girls some more room to breathe. I wouldn't mind having more of those today. They might also bring their current shows to the 90 minute mark, which I think nobody would mind. Thank you for doing these videos! I don't have any friends that like BABYMETAL, and it's much more fun to watch these together with you than doing it alone!

MacTaipan

They’re very fun for sure!

Jaron Geil

I really love to see these older concerts, when BabyMetal had to use cover songs to fill out a show. Animation with you, is such a fun song and a rare one to see them perform. Love to see some SU solos and Black BabyMetal. I can’t wait for the next concert.🦊🦊🦊

NOT-A CULT

I was kidding, haha!

Ganimal

I’ll consider it! Makes sense! Thanks!

Jaron Geil

Thanks! Great question!

Jaron Geil

Yeah no joke! 🤘

Jaron Geil

Of course! Thanks!

Jaron Geil

Thank you for watching Full BM Shows. I really enjoy it. Hope you will Continue :)

Busterle

Thanks for the watch along. I love these early gems. Take care of your neck!

Ron Frigon

Excellent reaction. The perfect trio of talented, disciplined and professional young ladies. Who else at that age could have pulled this off?

GratefulAmerican

This should be retitled: "Jesus Reviews Babymetal" to go with the thumbnail… 🤣 Loved your commentaries, got a lot of good chuckles, lol. I think the white outfits represented the “new life” given to Babymetal, as in rebirth, as the lore segments suggested. Look forward to the next concert viewing! 🤘🦊

Ganimal

Thank you for supporting!
