First off, a few new faces! Welcome! Out of curiosity - was it the linktree that led you here?
On to business: the oven fuckup was an unexpected headache. If you missed the FB posts, basically the thermostat broke somehow and the oven over-heated. I got lucky in that only a few of the molds melted. By now I've managed to fix the oven (by sourcing a replacement and driving for 6h) and new molds are on the way, but hurgh planned-schedule-setbacks.
We're getting close to the usual summer break of July too, so I reckon it's time for some focusing and goalpost-shuffling... I'll do some more detailed writeups in late june + start of august for retro / 2022-plans, but here's some short-term speculation at least.
Before summer;
- Replace the melted M+L molds
- Figure out the last production process issue. Getting weird curing-induced defects in the spots where drips can accumulate during casting... Need to experiment a bit, figure out why + how to fix.
- Add ~2 more colors + make a bunch of painted hoods. The tricky part is the space required, it's a _lot_ of liquid latex that needs to be accessible. On the upside it's well worth it since I'll be able to practice the suit-painting skills quite a bit with e.g. brown/skin-toned hoods.
- Get started with the glue-free mask concept (henceforth GFMC). It'll be a huge project, but 100% worth it.
- "Season 2 retrospective" post, dig into how things went and what was accomplished.
After summer;
- "Season 3 plan" post, set a few goalposts for the next year
- Continued work on the GFMC.
- 1-2 new base models for Suitworks. At least one pair of gloves, which'll give me a bit of practice with the production jig manufacturing.
- Late Q3/Q4 - one or two prototype suits up for sale, with the existing molds. I'll need to figure out a solution for the fragile mask, but then it oughta' be viable.
- Somethingsomething photoshoots, events & travel. No solid plan, but jesus christ I'm itching for parties/trade fairs/meetups. Looks like the general public in sweden is getting vaccinated in ~june, so aaaaalmost done!
There's a lot more to be said about the full season 3 plans, but that'll have to wait until I know how the production system fixing + GFMC is coming along. On a fun sidenote I've started poking around for a bigger workshop. It's quite unlikely that I'll be able to move the workshop before summer 2022 due to miscellaneous IRL/day-job commitments, but the surrounding commute-cities have some decent spots that are quite tempting. Good to know they exist, at least, although I do still keep my fingers crossed for something within the actual city.
I've also started pondering requirements for a full-suit dipcast rig... Even if I don't move to a bigger and better workshop, I may be able to borrow a corner from a friendly local weirdo to at least try the concept out. Should be worth the hassle, a lot of the current full-suit issues are caused by the spraying method.
Did I gloss over anything interesting? Anything I've missed? Comments and feedback appreciated!
