I was really touched by the story of your friend. I have a similar story with Of Mice and Men (remake w/John Malkovich and Gary Sinise). I loved it and wanted one of my best friends to read the book and watch the movie with me. She lived hours away, so it was one of those plans that we just kept putting off for "another day." Then one day I got a call that she was in the hospital about to go on a ventilator. Boarded the pups and flew up to Baltimore that night, planning to read the book to her before they knocked her out. I was too late. I walked into the ICU after hours (the nurses kindly let me visit), and she was in a coma, hooked up to every sci-fi piece of medical equipment you can imagine. The next day they took her off life support, and I was by her bedside at the end. That was 10 years ago, and I haven't been able to watch the movie or read the book since. Your story reminded me of that. It's a crappy way to learn not to take friends for granted, but it was a lesson I needed. Sorry for the long post. Just felt like sharing. (I think you would love the movie, btw.)
