What an episode

As it has already been pointed out, this episode is clearly based on "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by the great late Ursula K. Le Guin, and honestly this is what I think Star Trek needs, it needs to lean on science fiction writers. Just like in the beginning when Gene Roddenberry employed many great minds of the genre at the time to bring life to his show, I think that not only is it right for the franchise to draw upon the plethora of amazing science fiction stories out there, but the show runners should really look to contemporary science fiction writers to help the Star Trek universe grow! This series so far has had one of the strongest first seasons in all of the franchise, I think most of us would agree, but so far I feel that in many ways it has exploited its status as a prequel, using canon as a bit of a crutch with many homages or reimaginings of classic episode concepts. But as we look towards the future the series needs to grow and find its own voice and I think it would benefit from employing the minds of people currently writing science fiction to do it. I mean I would certainly love to watch an episode by Nnedi Okorafor, Ann Leckie, or Adam Troy-Castro, to name a few. And even beyond that, if the producers and showrunners had more foresight they could go as far as making Star Trek a sort of talent house for new and upcoming writers and tv people that want to specialize in the genre. I’ve always had this vision for a sort of SNL like cast of creators for science fiction, and we would all benefit from new great original stories to expand the universe. But of course as we know, Paramount does as Paramount wills, but here is to the continual hope for greatness in Trek! As an aside, re the conversation about my username (Starkiller1701), Andy wondered how old I am, I just turned 27. I have been wondering myself whether or not I am on the younger side, maybe when it comes to the TNC crew, so I think maybe that would be an interesting poll to run possibly.
