Poll | Charge Upfront

Hey all :)

In this poll, I ask your opinion on Patreon's "charge upfront" feature.

The difference between the two modes:

Currently, patrons can subscribe at any point, but will only pay for their subscription on the 1st of the following month.
Patrons lose access to any exclusive content the moment they unsubscribe.

With the charge upfront mode, patrons would pay as soon as they subscribe, and should they remain subscribed, every following 1st of the month.
Patrons would continue to have access to their tier's exclusive content until the end of the month they paid for, even after unsubscribing.

Why I would like to switch to charge upfront:

The current payment mode is quite unusual, and there have been people who have subscribed and unsubscribed before the end of the month, thinking they had supported the game, when actually they had not.

The current payment mode also allows people to effectively steal exclusive content, which is unfair to paying patrons.

How would this affect patrons who are already subscribed?

Nothing would change for patrons who are already subscribed before switching modes.

Already subscribed patrons will NOT be charged upon switching modes. They will be charged on the 1st of the following month, like before.

This change would only affect patrons who subscribe after "charge upfront" is turned on.
Should you unsubscribe and re-subscribe at a later date, then you would be charged upfront.

The pros and cons of charge upfront:

Pros:

• You will have access to exclusive content until the end of the month, even if you unsubscribe.
• Patrons that only wish to subscribe during the early-access period of a new release can subscribe and unsubscribe within the same day, saving them the hassle of coming back at the end of the month to unsubscribe, while still retaining access to all exclusive content until the end of the month.
• Patrons can choose to subscribe annually should they want to, being charged only once for 12 months of subscription. This is entirely optional, of course.

Cons:

• Patrons that subscribe towards the end of a month will be charged twice within a few days. This is made clear at the moment of subscription, and can be avoided by subscribing on the 2nd of the following month. I am also willing to refund one of the payments to patrons who were charged twice within a few days, should they ask for it.
