Races

I wanted to introduce this particular world, The Radiant Isles, piece by piece on here so you'll forgive me if every Friday I give a small sample for both you guys' benefit and my own. My ultimate goal here is to build towards releasing a written story and a number of comics but I don't want to put down anything hard on paper as who knows what'll happen with this in the future.

I'm currently working on a map to have this make a little bit more sense, but for now, I thought it'd be nice to give more context to the races that exist in this world along with this image that I posted a while back. Everything is somewhat loosely defined and subject to change but here's the basics:

The Narakyians, as previously introduced exist in the Endless Sands, a shifting ocean of fluid like sand. They're a tough, tall, passionate, people defined by voracious sexual appetites and are almost exclusively polysexual. Fantastic hunters, they tend to only eat meat as there's little room to grow in the desert. They have a loosely defined caste system with royalty, nobles, and commoners but they tend to mix socially and sexually with little regard to who is with who. But they are incredibly strict with marriage as it defines where their children come from and what land families get to own. They're very much run by instinct and love to fight and challenge each other to decide to the pecking orders of their smaller inner social groups. Their bodies are tough and resistant to heat, with incredibly strong wings to fly long distances over the deserts. There is little difference between the males and females of the species, only males tending to have larger manes. They're not a species that deals with subtly and sarcasm and nuance is often lost on them.

The Galareans live in the middle floating continents. They're naturally stocky with smaller wings designed to fly over short distances in the hot air that lifts from the Endless Sands. Their horns are seasonal and tend to fall and regrow in the autumn with females having noticeably smaller horns and bodies. Their society is a lot loosely defined with councils and elected officials in their city states instead of royalties though only males can be considered to be in positions of power. The fertile lands they live on are heavily farmed and their diet mainly consists of various exotic vegetables. As well as being incredibly successful farmers they are knowledgeable merchants who travel across the Radiant Isles supplying them with unusual produce. They tend to be rash, hot tempered and a quick thinking people who have a strict codes of respect around their social behavior between different age groups and genders, punishing disrespect strictly. 

The Irenians exist in the upper seas. They're expert swimmers with small, sleek bodies designed to dive into water. The towns they live in are often on islands or close to the coasts as a result with a lot of their diets being based around the fish they net. They have very conservative societies that are run with incredibly strict caste systems of lords, nobles, vassals and peasants with little room to step outside the acceptable boundaries within their small villages. It's not unusual to hear of Irenians who are ostracized and forced to live in the lower cities. Their religion mirrors this, worshipping water gods that demand a certain amount of purity defined by how they conduct themselves. Males tend to be stronger and taller then females but there isn't much sexual dysmorphism however their society is very gender locked with females rarely working. They are very even tempered and quiet, often being subtle in how they get across their affections.
