Domesticated animals on the seas

The mountains on the upper continents host a wild variety of wildlife, but within Irenian villages there are many domesticated critters. The main source of milk and wool comes from the Beto, a docile animal with hidden short wings under it's stringy short fur. It does well in the cold but is rarely eaten except for special occasions and dire circumstances. Beto are often herded by Dai on the ground, which are loyal, large creatures who also aid fishermen out in the seas. Yang-i are small, mink like creatures that originally lived in small colonies close to the Beacon and thus gained some expertise in fire magic. They're kept in Irenian homes sometimes as literal sources of heat and companionship.

I want to think that Kaede at one point had a Yang-i who probably liked to sit on top of her books.
