Narakyian Magic

The magic use by the Narakyian is, like themselves, feral, unpredictable but incredibly powerful. It comes from the energy within their own bodies and always manifests as sparks of 'lightning' from their hands with just a single thought.  All Narakyian have the potential to learn magic but few can physically manifest it or have the patience to learn. It requires control of emotion, patience and careful thinking, which most Narakyian struggle to manage in their daily lives.

Their magics can be separated into two distinct areas, battle magic and more controlled magic. Magic used within battle is considered a highly difficult skill to do in the heat of the moment. While there are specific subsections to this magic, generally it manifests as energy, or lightning that jumps off the body, directed towards a specific target. Narakyian who can do this in battle are highly valued and are usually called adepts. 

More controlled mundane magic exists on every level of society, done by trained mages to help communities. Energy is forced into solids such as earth to move them, or reshape. Many things from pumping water, to even cleaning are managed by magic. Even building projects are aided by at least one or two mages to construct buildings or do difficult tasks. Magic to control liquid is a highly prized and difficult skill, with only a handful of mages even coming close to managing it in a competent manner.

Smaller acts of magic that need to be repeated are often done through runes. These are written in a special ink from specific deep 'sea' creatures from the Sands. The ink allows them to imbue the words with power directly from the mage itself for simple tasks. Mages stay connected to these runes, often multiple and as a result, eat a huge amount to keep their energy up.

There is a huge amount of experimentation and research that goes into magic.  Safety is not priority, so mages often train with masters by themselves in secluded places before rejoining society as young Narakyian mages will easily destroy things around them by accident. It wouldn't be considered unusual to train for over a decade in magic. Despite that, mages are still considered somewhat dangerous and unpredictable, and often find themselves on the fringes of Narakyian society.

I've always wanted to talk about this. Narakyian magic is just like them, kinda' feral and will probably knock a wall down by accident. This is 100% subject to change in the details, but the basics are definitely probably won't.
