Arcology 26 A.K.A. "The Slum Block"

Ok, here it is. The big map I've been working on for a few days. This was actually a commission work (that I do occasionally when I have some time) done for Nine Dragons Publishing. This is for their Honour RPG that depicts a world much like ours, but with supernatural and fantastic elements.

The map is based on the Walled City of Kowloon. A really amazing place that was demolished in 1994, but before that it was home to over 30 000 people. This map is maybe six times as large as the Walled City was, so I would imagine this building cluster would house around 200 000 people, maybe even more if the buildings are really high, like in Judge Dredd for instance. Talking about Judge Dredd; I thought that this map can be easily used in cyberpunk settings, and why not as an off-world colony settlement or a post-apocalyptic fort city as well. There should be enough places for the player characters to get busy and spend a few sessions running around the city :)

I was compensated for my work, but I actually spent maybe double the time that I was paid for. As I retained rights to use this map on Patreon, I wanted to put some extra effort to this map to justify this being a paid release. Also, I wanted to include a little alternative setting for this map.

To allow better customization this release includes a version without any texts. I'll share the final map made for the Honour RPG as an extra Patrons-only  post, once I get that approved.

And here's how I would personally use this map...

Arcology 26 (A26)

The notorious Arcology 26 started off as a housing project funded by Ryoko-Feuerwald corporation to house its indentured workers and other low-tier staff. The A26 was a marvel of construction engineering and it was designed to house a quarter million corporate citizens and provide all the services its residents needed.

It was during the Pacific Corporate Conflict when Ryoko-Feuerwald had to abandon its ownership of the A26 after three months of relentless cyber-enhanced urban warfare against the private military forces of Westfort Systems, Armavaal and Omni-Combine. After the Ryoko-Feuerwalds surrender and retreat, suddenly most of the block's residents became unemployed. The corporations who had taken over the A26, did not have any interest in rebuilding the city or to utilize its huge workforce potential.

The foundations of the society deteriorated quickly and criminal elements took over the city block. Many left the city at this time, but even more moved in. In a few years the A26 turned into one of the most densely populated unsupervised slums in the world. With its estimated 450 000 residents, "The Slum Block", as its better known, is an independent city of its own. No government or corporation claims or wants jurisdiction over it. Its super-high crime rates makes it a sanctuary to fugitives and criminals all over the world. It is also the global center of illegal biotechnology, cyber-crime and digital piracy. Many official entities would like to get rid of the A26, but in practice there's no painless way to evict and relocate a half a million people just like that. Instead there are many shadow operations run by different governments and corporations either to benefit from the A26's unique state of affairs, or to collapse the city from inside with carefully planned surgical strikes.
