About Custom Maps

Custom maps are a special reward available to you when you pledge at a tier with the Custom Maps reward. If you are in need of custom-made maps or you are considering joining a tier for custom maps, I recommend you read the details below first.

How does it work?

When you pledge at an appropriate tier you can request a custom map and I will make it as soon as my schedule or current production pipeline allows it. 

• Small maps are smaller than 20x20 squares in size.
• Large maps are up to 45x45 squares in size.
• Complex maps are usually city, region, or world maps, or any map with considerable about of small detail. Complex maps double the cost.
• Simple maps are black & white or one-color maps with less detail. These could be wireframe deckplans, old-school dungeons, etc. Simple maps halve the cost.

You get one custom map for every $300 USD (small) or $500 USD (large) of lifetime patronage. If you have previously pledged at a different tier, your lifetime patronage is taken into account when you pledge at a tier with a Custom Maps reward.  Please note that the tiers have a limited number of spots available. 

Contact me when you have a map in mind. I have found out that it's best if you contact me through Patreon's own direct messaging or the contact form on my website, here.

It might take some time – even up to a few months – before I get to work on your map, so I recommend you reserve a spot in my schedule beforehand. A direct message through Patreon's own messaging system is the best way to reach me. At the time of the reservation, I will give you an estimate of the delivery and I will discuss the details with you when I start working on your map.  

You can give me a rough idea or clear details for the map, as you like. Once I have something done, I will send you a draft or line art version of the map. You can give your feedback and comments at this point, and I'll do my best to follow and honor your wishes and instructions.   

This is not a commission job. Custom maps do not include multiple drafts or fix rounds, but I do my best to communicate with you about the details of your map. Still, there is a chance the map might end up a little different from what you envisioned, but I have already invested my time in making the map and therefore I do not offer refunds for finished maps. 

Custom maps do not come with an exclusive license. In other words, custom maps are published on Patreon as usual, and I will retain the rights to use, sell, or modify the maps for my own use.  

Custom maps cannot infringe other known IPs. As the maps are published on Patreon as paid content, I cannot make maps that infringe other existing IPs. 

You get a high-resolution map you need (also in editable and layered format), and you can use the map in your games, stream broadcasts and videos, or for commercial purposes as per the Commercial Use Subscription terms and conditions. 

One more thing. All this might sound like there are a lot of limitations and restrictions, but I've learned that there's been some wrong assumptions and misunderstandings about the custom maps in a few rare cases over the years. 

So, this is just to manage expectations and keep things clear for you and me. Fortunately, I can say that most of my patrons have been happy, even positively surprised by what they got and I prefer to keep things this way :)
