The Mines of Cthonus + Ambient Track

This is the largest map I have done so far. It's a 50x100 square map with 100px squares. This map comes also with an ambient track by Music d20 and two different visual versions. The Mines of Cthonus

Asteroid miners are not any better than dwarves in fantasy. Always digging too deep. This map is based on the concept of a "space dungeon" and finding something ancient and alien locked inside a remote asteroid, Cthonus. 

Initial scans of the asteroid seemed very promising. The sensor readings were scrambled as usual with rich deposits amatium. A rare mineral essential for hyperdrive component manufacturing and antimatter fuel refining among many other applications, like nanotechology and positronics. 

As the mines dug deeper and closer to the core the mining drills struck something unexpected. A solid wall of super-dense and indestructible material clearly made by some ancient alien civilization. 

As attempts to penetrate the wall proved futile, the miners started looking for alternative routes. Eventually densitometers found symmetrical cavities around the walled area and new tunnels were burrowed to breach into the cavities. The miners found remnants of an ancient alien structure built inside the asteroid and the tunnels lead to two large chambers. One with numerous knee-high cylindrical containers and another one with a floating platform surrounded by a spherical field of dark dust. Once the field of dust was passed by a team of miners contact with the team was lost... 

About This Map

This map is divided into three sections: 

• The main level with a loading/hangar bay, engineering facilities, a control center, and crew quarters. 
• The bottom level of the mines connected to the previous area by a mining elevator. There can be any number of other mining levels before this, but they can be just generic mining levels with nothing of value or interest in them. 
• The Vault of Cthonus. An ancient vault built by a vanished alien civilization. There is something horrible growing and mutating inside the breached vault.
