Miska's Maps 2021 Plans and Miska's Mythos Maps

Hi everyone!

I've been thinking about my plans and goals for the next year and here's some news before the end of the year. 

Prepare for Lightspeed

In 2021this Patreon continues to focus on sci-fi, space opera, and cyberpunk maps even more than before, as in 2020 sci-fi consistently dominated my monthly map polls on Patreon. More precisely, my focus will be 

1) Star Wars and Starfinder inspired space opera and space fantasy maps

2) Alien, Eclipse Phase, and Expanse inspired hard SF maps

3)  Cyberpunk, Genefunk 2090, and Shadowrun inspired cyberpunk maps. 

There might be an occasional high-fantasy map, especially in map variants, but there's no monthly commitment to make them on regular basis.

Mythos Maps

As some of you know, I've tried to branch out my fantasy maps to a separate Patreon project earlier, but after thinking this for a couple of months, I must admit that this is not something I would find very useful. There are already a lot of very high-quality fantasy maps from virtually dozens of creators, who commit fully on creating fantasy maps. Instead, I realized that there is a niché that I'm familiar with and enjoy working with – Cthulhu and horror maps.  

To make things simpler, I decided to set up a new Patreon project (or actually replaced the earlier Atherune/Aeonrune project with this one) instead of mixing Miska's Maps Patreon with other genres. 

Mythos Maps will focus on early 20th century cthulhu mythos inspired maps, with occasional steampunk, weird science, or western themed maps. Maps are mostly grounded in reality with some artistic and fictional liberties (no flying islands, spacefaring sail ships etc. in plans at the moment).

Proper launch and first releases are planned for January 2021 with one or two monthly map pack for starters.

I will make Mythos Map Packs available to higher tier patrons, especially if the map can be used also as a sci-fi or cyberpunk map, so if you would like to have both sci-fi and mythos maps, there's no need for you to subscribe to both. Details on this will follow very soon.

Optimizing Workflow

By and large, even if 2020 was an awful year in many aspects, it was also a year of progress for Miska's Maps. Remote work and your increased support made it possible for me to explore new horizons:  I've started drawing maps on iPad which has increased my productivity by a lot, I've started making maps optimized for virtual tabletops with variant versions, made my first map assets, and Foundry VTT -ready maps. I have also done several collaborations with illustrators and composers, and many other creators. But, this has also resulted in increased complexity in my workflow and I'm looking into simplifying things to keep my workhours manageable. 

I'm still looking into the details and more news on this will follow soon. 

Last Maps of 2020

Last but not least, a quick update on the maps coming before the end of the year. 

I have two maps ready for release: Warehouse Lab and Root Nest

Next week I'll be releasing:

• Abandoned mining outpost map
• Engineer bio-ship deckplan
• Cyberpunk nightclub 

I've started working on the modular spaceship and office map sections, but I'm afraid that I can't finish them before the end of the month and will be finished in January instead.
