Game System for the Adventures?
Added 2021-04-13 08:22:14 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
We had a Discord meeting with Chris who is teaming up with me to write some adventure content to go with my maps. One topic we discussed was what game system to use. Especially when thinking long-term and making a possible series of adventures.
Obviously, for copyright reasons, we cannot use any existing game settings, but we can deal with this by providing content that is easily usable with different settings. With rules, we could do the same by using generic system-agnostic rules, but we also have an option to use open systems like 5E or Starfinder, and even Year Zero Engine to some extent.
There are other systems too, like Savage Worlds, but unfortunately, they are not open for commercial use, or they are so marginal that I would think using them would serve only a minority of you.
If we used a specific game system for sci-fi and cyberpunk adventures, what system would be the most convenient for you?
Also, we are very aware of the situation with sci-fi and cyberpunk games that the scene is very divided, whereas in fantasy D&D 5E is the dominant system. Even if we would start using a certain game system as a "master system" for the adventures, we would definitely take the easy adaptability into account. This means that even if you didn't use exactly the specified system, it would be at least fairly easy for you to convert it for your own use.
I have included systems that are:
- Open for commercial use on Patreon
- We are so familiar with the system that we would feel comfortable creating original content for it
- The system has a wide enough audience (based on statistics we found online).
Cast your vote and tell us your comments and thoughts on this. You can vote for multiple systems if you have several that you are fine with.
Thanks!

Edit: added some clarifications regarding other systems
