January News and Map Poll
Added 2022-01-02 00:46:32 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
It's a new year, and it's time to start with some new goals and standards.
Assets - Phase 2
A little more than a year ago, I started making sci-fi assets. Throughout 2021 I have learned a lot about making props and refined my skills, but there are still a few more refinements to do.
In 2022, I will increase my focus on assets and modular content. I will also go through my old assets, and I will give some of them a minor facelift and organize them better by size.
This year, a single big project I will work on is to build a library of props, tiles, and modular ship sections to provide assets based on Starfinder's spaceship building rules. This means that there will be tiles and/or assets for creating spaceships of different sizes with various expansion bays and modules. I believe these assets will be usable in many other games besides Starfinder, but Starfinder rules provide a useful and comprehensive list of various ship parts.
There will be other assets too. The Infinite Rocket project will continue, and I'll add a few new decks or modules every month. I have drafts for some Dune-inspired props, sci-fi/cyberpunk convenience store props, and alien jungle-themed props.
Map Pack Updates
The following changes will be applied to the upcoming map pack releases and their content:
- I'm going to start using new size standards to make the maps easier for home printing. The map dimensions will be divisible with 8 and 11 inches/squares. For example, 8x11 will be the smallest map size, and a 16x22 map will be a 4 page (2-by-2) map.
- I will favor other content (assets, mini-adventures, encounters) over variants. There will be at least a default and an unpropped version for each map, some might have more, but this will vary case-by-case.
- I will write a short (1-2 pages) encounter, mini-adventure, or location description for the upcoming map packs. These will be included in PDF and Foundry VTT format at the Hero tier. I plan to keep these primarily system-agnostic. Still, if game mechanics or stats are used, they will be mainly for Starfinder and the 5th Edition. These are currently the most popular and accessible systems. Occasionally there can be content for the Year Zero Engine or other open gaming systems.
Map Gallery and Map Library Updates
I have received some feedback over the past year – and I'm painfully aware of the situation myself, too – that Patreon is not the best platform to browse visual content. To help with this, we are working on a browsable gallery (a preview can be found here: https://www.miskasmaps.com/gallery) and I'm going to update and reorganize the Map Library on Patreon in the next month or two. More about these later.
Pending December Releases & Map Poll
And last but not least, a little poll for you to figure out the priority of the upcoming releases.
I have some maps done and being worked on from December. These will be released before new map projects:
- Geothermal Reactor Cave
- Space Station Hangar
- Frontier Docking Bay
- A freighter deckplan
What maps (and relevant assets) would you like me to work on after these? Please vote for your favorite(s). The results will be used for the prioritization of the late-January and early February releases.
Comments
You've done a lot of freighter and transport deckplans. How about a warship like a destroyer or fighter-carrier. Something like BattleStar Galactica would be really fun.

2022-01-05 04:19:50 +0000 UTCI'm a big Star Wars fan myself and often draw inspiration from Star Wars movies and series. Currently, I'm drafting city assets (similar to the colony outpost assets) inspired by Mos Espa (aka city in Book of Boba Fett ep. 1) and I have a landing pad inspired by the Scarif landing pads from Rogue One in the works as well. It's just missing some extra assets I need to finish first. Probably during this month as I need some tropical assets for other upcoming maps as well. Also, for February I drafted a plan for a modified sandcrawler (that can double also as a Dune spice harvester). Finally, I have a round docking bay, similar to the Mos Eisley docking bay in New Hope almost ready (one of the pending December maps). So, Star Wars inspired and compatible content is coming :) Which SW system are you using btw?

2022-01-03 18:25:49 +0000 UTCLove your work. I am a member as I plan to use it for a Star Wars campaign. If you ever find inspiration by some of the newer Star Wars stuff (i.e. Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, etc), then I would be SUPER excited .. Outside of that, love your stuff, and and so happy you are doing it! :D thank you!!
