September Plans and Summer Recap
Added 2022-09-01 13:31:50 +0000 UTCHi everyone!
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for your support. Next, I need to admit that the summer didn't go quite as planned. Regardless of my best intentions, I could not meet the goals I had set for Patreon. The reason for this is primarily bad time management and too optimistic expectations.
Why the summer was slow?
I've been thinking about what happened and how to avoid this in the future. For transparency, here's a brief breakdown:
- In June, I had to wrap up some loose ends with a TTRPG project I had been involved with since 2015. Now I have no more ties with this project.
- In July, I took a proper vacation to spend time with my family first time in years. To be honest, I needed this. I intended to prepare some releases for July in June, but all that time went into finalizing the project. At least we won a cosplay contest with our Star Wars-themed costumes :)
- In August, I had to work on administrative work that took way more days than I had planned. In addition to this, I had some unexpected family matters to attend to, and this affected a few days.
To summarize, some things were something that I could have prepared for, but I was too optimistic and did not take them into account in my plans for the summer. On the other hand, some matters were unexpected, and I could not foresee their effect on my workdays.
To prevent the same mistakes in the future, I have decided to take action, and I'm currently already working on this.
With a few small exceptions, I'm just one person doing all the stuff by myself. This also makes my work very prone to disruptions as there is no one to replace me when I can't work on RPG content. Because of this, I will have to focus on keeping everything manageable to avoid getting burnt out.
September Plans
During September I'm going to keep on working on new maps and assets, but Foundry VTT modules and Dungeondraft custom asset packs are very high on my priority list.
Maps
I have a patrol craft deckplan and a security station (sci-fi police station) layout in the works.
In addition, I have some arcology and asteroid maps and some deckplans in the pipeline. More about these soon as I have completed the current WIP maps.
Dungeondraft
At the moment, I'm working on the process of creating and converting a complete set of walls, portals, tilesets, lights, paths, etc. for Dungeondraft. the first version with walls and portals should come out within the next day or two. The rest will follow soon after this.
Working on this first batch has required more learning and focus because I've had to figure out how everything works. In the future, I expect the creation of new custom assets to be much faster.
Foundry Modules
The pending Foundry scene, asset, and token modules are high on my priority list. I'm looking into some options to speed up this process and get everything up to date again.
I've been building a process to streamline the making of Foundry VTT modules to avoid falling behind in the future.
Future Directions
I'm trying to plan the future of Miska's Maps, and I'd like to hear from you about which kind of content and features are important to you.
Please choose up to five most important types of content you would find useful. This will help in prioritizing the content.
Thank you!
Take care,
Miska
