Upcoming Releases, Mapvember, and Cyberpunk Maps

Hi everyone,

Some news and plans for November and a poll related to the recent What Games Are You Playing 2022 survey.

Upcoming Releases

First, about the upcoming releases. As I was in flu for a few days last week, this week there will be two map releases (actually more, but I’ll get into that shortly) and one asset pack release.

Next week, another deckplan is coming up, and I’ll start working on some new urban assets.

#Mapvember2022

It's time for another mapvember, and it’s going to be a busy month. 30+ maps in 30 days.

This year I’m making maps for a bunch 5E fantasy mini-adventures/quests AND some modular spaceship sections.

Fantasy maps are for Ironspine Adventures, a brand new fantasy-themed Patreon creating Fifth Edition adventures and supplements. I’m one of the four team members and responsible mainly for the cartography and layout. So, if you are interested in fantasy maps by yours truly, here you have it :)

We will be publishing the basic versions of the mapvember mini-adventures for free on Ironspine Adventure’s Patreon and as illustrated PDFs on a weekly basis.

Modular spaceship sections are published here, and the aim is to create 30-ish pieces for building your own quick spaceship or space station layouts. yes, I know this has been in plans for a long time, and it’s finally happening! ’:D

Space Opera or Cyberpunk Maps?

The results of the What Games Are You Playing survey got me thinking. As a genre, sci-fi is a bit tricky. When you talk about the fantasy genre, it’s pretty clear what you might expect, whereas sci-fi can mean anything from near-future hard sci-fi with no aliens to galaxy-spanning epic space adventures with all kinds of aliens.

This has been a challenge for some time already, actually, and in some recent polls, I have identified that there seems to be a larger group of ”crewmates” who prefer more Star Warsy or far-future space opera maps (e.g., Star Wars, Starfinder, Traveller…), and then there is a smaller, but very significant group that prefers more realistic sci-fi (e.g., Alien, Expanse, Eclipse Phase…) and/or cyberpunk.

Of course, some maps work for both groups, but some don’t or end up as less optimal compromises.

I haven’t still made up my mind, as there are some things to consider first, but I’m looking for possible options to provide more focused content for both groups (space opera & hard SF/cyberpunk).

In brief, I have a question for you: would you be interested in an option where you would get only hard sci-fi or cyberpunk content?

Please vote for the option that would benefit you the most.

That’s all for now. Tomorrow I should have new releases coming up. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your support!

Comments

There is coming some good news your way soon.

I would love Star Wars content, but can pretty much use most maps for Star wars anyway.

This is one of those themes that has been pending for some time. As a Necromunda player (and ex wh40K black templar and tyranid player) myself, I've been having an itch to make some industrial hive city and ashwaste maps...

Grimdark SF would be great. There are many space opera maps already.
