Kiri la Kill - Chapter 22

In today’s news, a new quest is in the works, just as soon as I can complete planning for it. Because of course, my college keeps me busy with bullshit that I have to stay on top of, and no, I don’t mean lessons when I say that.

Anyway, enjoy today’s reading, a snippet chapter that has Kiri settling into Honnouji Academy, and people reacting to his presence as he does… oh and by the way, 3 more chapters until a certain protagonist appears.

Enjoy.

———————————————————

Apparently, Kiri was a second year student.

How did Honnouji manage to figure that out when even he didn’t know his own age, he would never really know, nor was he sure he wanted to. But regardless, he found himself shuffling over to the bus route that took him directly to school.

It had certainly felt strange, getting to enter a school he’d nearly had to kill someone to enter through the gates of last time… With him having to look up into the sky to see if Gamagoori Ira was waiting to ambush him yet again, and only relaxing when he was beneath the roof of the school.

That feeling could not compare at all to the feeling he got, when he learned that he had been assigned to Class 2-A.

It all filled him with a weird sense of nostalgia that really didn’t help Kiri’s sense of self… Once again bringing forth that weird feeling of loss that was rapidly becoming a frustrating dissonance, because the Kiri he was could not relate to the feelings of the Kiri that he had been.

———————————————————

His classmates stared.

They stared a lot in fact, as he introduced himself to them.

Kiri could not really blame them for it. Who would expect getting a new ‘transfer student’ being dropped before them right after what happened last weekend? Honnouji Academy had suffered their worst humiliation yet, and was going through a period of restructuring. On top of that, a transfer student’s sudden appearance was last on the list of anyone’s worries.

Then of course, the news came out that he was the same person who’d attacked Honnouji, and nearly tore through everything on his own. Considering how the Student Council had called on everyone to defend the school, it was inevitable that someone would recognize Kiri.

It didn’t change just how much it sucked to be given a wide berth.

———————————————————

And then there were the teachers.

The teachers, who had not taken part in the defense of Honnouji at all, yet still seemed to bear some sort of ill will to Kiri, considering how he was immediately put on the spot on his very first day of school.

Whether it be Math, Biology, Physics, History or English. Kiri had been the focus of all of the hard hitting questions that they could get their hands on. Called up again and again, to the point where even those who had been ready to shun Kiri were wincing in sympathy.

Of course, Kiri would have been a lot more concerned about just how he was going to do what Satsuki had asked of him, but…

He was a lot more concerned with just how well he was answering those questions!

Not all of them, especially not with things he didn’t have context for like in History. But Math and English? Biology? Kiri seemed to breeze through everything he could logic himself through, despite not even knowing he was inclined for these type of things!

———————————————————

Of course, there would be those that objected to Kiri’s presence in their school.

Kiri’s Rampage had thoroughly shifted the balance of power after all. Not only for Honnouji’s standing in the world, but within the school itself. The destruction of so many Goku Uniforms had made it so that so many clubs that had been thriving, now found themselves on the bottom of the pecking order once more.

Especially now that the ‘No Stars’ were being elevated at the behest of Kiri (a deal with Satsuki on paper had been turned into something he’d forced her to do out of sheer necessity in their minds) the loss of privilege stung.

Kiri found himself being ambushed on the corridors on more than one occasion… and despite his Rampage having proven that even Goku Uniforms posed no threat to him, people took courage from Satsuki’s display of strength, and thought that they could take the ‘Beast’ down.

And his walks through the corridors of Honnouji Academy always ended up with a trail of bodies in his wake, no matter how much he tried to deescalate.

Which really didn’t help his reputation at all…

Though Kiri was starting to care less and less about what people thought of him by the day, especially if they were going to be this facetious about it!

———————————————————

Despite the weird turn his life had taken, Kiri eventually settled into a routine.

The fact that the moment he got a roof over his head, his first instinct every morning was to wake up and train was an unsurprising thing that he’d relearned about himself. Likely a vestige from his old self, that he really didn’t mind for once.

Then he would take the tram to school, where he would be ogled or glared at by his fellow students… Who would either ambush him on the road to his class or steer clear of him entirely. The classes would then go on with Kiri giving it as good as he got on most of his lessons.

During lunch, he would be accosted by one of the Big Four (sans Gamagoori) due to being invited to eat at the Student Council Room. And depending on who it was, Kiri would either have his brain be fried (Inumuta), his face flushed red (Nonon), or actually get a somewhat pleasant conversation or two (Sanageyama).

And then, before departing back to his home, he would report to Satsuki.

Perplexingly enough, those moments quickly became his favorite.

———————————————————

“Your teachers are impressed.”

“Really? Was it you that told them to lean so hard on me on my first day?”

“It was a sink or swim moment, and you proved yourself to be an Olympian rather quickly.” Satsuki declared, as she sipped from her tea. “I applaud your capability to excel under pressure.” Kiri could only scoff with a shake of his head.

“You really are a slave driver, you know?” He grumbled.

“If that is what makes you excel, I will happily accept that moniker.” Kiryuin Satsuki responded, calmly nodding as Kiri raised an eyebrow, inwardly wondering whether or not she was enjoying this or not. Thankfully, he had something in his arsenal that would allow him to retort.

“Yeah?” He asked. “How are the resettlements going?”

Kiryuin Satsuki frowned.

“We are making… adequate progress.” She responded, not deigning to say more than that.

Kiri let out a huff of amusement as he too, took a sip from his own tea.

Maybe there was something to this ‘teasing’ thing.

Next chapter will have us focus entirely on Satsuki and Kiri’s developing relationship!
