It's a long running Japanese gag to have a wash basin drop on a characters head (you see it a ton in Anime) They look a lot like giant pie plates, so some people think that's what they are, but nay they are a wash basin, fun fact, now you know this trope, you will see it in all your anime. It's literally the Japanese Equivalent of an Anvil or 10ton weight in Western Cartoons (so no it's not some random Japanese weirdness, we do it to).
