So now that Stagtown is over, the new series Cinderella Boy will be debuting in a matter of months! I am excited and nervous about how it will be received, especially since it's full-color and even with help from a part-time colorist, I still have a lot more work than usual to do on it, design-wise, and I'm not sure I'm up to the task. I've really only ever worked in black and white before, excepting Toyetica, which got a lot of coloring help. But I worked very hard to bring it this far and will keep trying to do my best!
Fun fact, the series started as a pipe dream I never thought would actually get realized. I've been pretty pigeon-holed in my career for years as a horror artist and nothing else, and everyone knows it's super hard to switch genres and retain your audience. That's why I had to post it on Canvas first, to prove to WEBTOON that it could succeed even without my current readership. It took months of working on both series at once, a full year of working with editor friends to hash out and refine the plot and characters etc, comedian friends to help write jokes, and many 90-hour work weeks doing art for it on top of Stagtown. I won't lie, it took a physical toll on me. But once on Canvas, the series started getting daily features on the front page frequently, and WEBTOON was convinced it would be a good addition to their Originals program! Which is great cuz like, what was I going to do for a job after Stagtown, I dunno, lol. Being a comic artist means only having a job for every 1-3 years and having to scramble for more work after.
Anyway I keep trying to find time to do an update comic for the Canvas version to let everyone know about the move. I hope I can get that done by the end of this week.
I just hope everyone likes it this fall! Also, the title was changed from the Canvas Cinderella Chasers to Originals' Cinderella Boy, but we are still calling it Chasers. What are we gonna call it, Boy? That's weird. Call it Chasers. That's what the cool kids know it as.
