Deathsmiles is a top tier shmup in my book. And interestingly, I usually prefer vertical shmups. Maybe the relatively easier difficulty helps. But I love the left/right shot controls, the skull power up mechanic, the Halloween theme, the boss battles, the ability to choose your path, and the music! Cave's output during the 360 Era was phenomenal.

2022-11-03 13:24:04 +0000 UTCA fair ranking, it's nowhere near my favorite shmup. I do get tired of the little digs at the genre though. For such a venerable and foundational game genre it gets dismissed far too often. If you want dense, challenging gameplay, they provide a rush like no other.
