Daily Free-Write August 2, 2020

There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. I haven't got to do anything much left theee today but think and write. I was four minutes late for my freewerite. I can just write anything that comes to my mind. It doesn't matter what. What you do is up to you. I wonder what else I might write about. It doesn't have to be good, this is  a freewrite. We can imagine whatever we want to. So let's continue on this journey.

"Where did they go? I know my friends were around here. Now I'm the only one left, and it's getting dark."

It was getting dark. The poor raccoon knew they weren't supposed to be alone this late at night, especially in the park behind their neighborhood. Some people called it 'murder park' because the criminal elements of the city used it as their dumping grounds. But he wasn't a criminal. Or was he?

The sign read 'no visitors after sunset' He wasn't supposed to be there. He just wanted to tag along with his friends - at least he thought they were his friends. But why had they ditched him?

'Connorrrr' came a whisper from behind a nearby bush. 'Connnorrrrrr'

"W-Who's there?"

The blood ran cold in his veins. He was not alone after all.

'Connor' came another high, reedy voice from behind a tree 'We're going to GET you, Connor!'

'Is that you guys? This isn't funny!'

'We're not your friends.... we're your worst nightmare!'

Two dark figures emerged from the bushes. He couldn't make out their faces. That's when he felt two paws grasp his ankles. He screamed, immediately tried to bolt, and fell flatt onto his face when the hands held him tight. Laughter from all around.

"Ohh man, we got you good Connor didn't we?"

The three faces of his friends now appeared right above him. Racc, Roquel, and Tank.

"Psh, no. I knew it was you all along!" Connor lied, not too convincingly.

"Yeah right! I'll bet you wet your pants, ya scaredy kit!" said Racc.

"Did not!"

"Did so!"

Well, the truth was, he had wet his pants just a little. Okay, a lot. But they would never be able to see it in the dark.

Tank, a large rhino put his hands out as if to separate the two arguing teens and rumbled in his signature baritone.

"It's time we get back, guys. I gotta get home before my mom gets home from work."

"Yeah, me too," Raquel agreed, as she giggled at the two people arguing. "Let's get outta here."

As they began to walk, out of the park, Racc thought he caught a glimpse of something strange about Connor's pants and began to grin. He pointed a little finger at the Raccoon walking in front of him.

"Hey, what's tha-"

Tank had seen it too, and quickly played interception, immediately filing in behind Connor, blocking his backside from view and saving him any embarrassment.

"What was that?" Asked Connor, oblivious to the whole exchange.

"I didn't hear anything." Said Tank. "Did you guys?"

"Nope. Didn't hear a thing!" Raquel said shaking her head and smiling.

Racc raised a finger to say something but stopped short when the Rhino threw him a dirty glance.

"I- er... nope. Musta been the wind!" He said, with a nervous laugh.

Tank knew something the others may have only guessed at. Connor had been having more problems staying dry recently, and it was getting harder to hide. But he would do what he could to protect his little friend from any ridicule.

The rest of the walk back to the neighborhood was relatively conflict free - aside from the occassional arguments between the two raccoon boys over who was more of a scaredy kit.
