Baby Jackie sat in the quiet corner snuggling his favorite dragon. It was yet another 'fun filled' day in daycare where he was learning all about colors and shapes and letters - or more like unlearning. Though he couldn't really be sure, he felt like his knowledge was decreasing day by day. But Jackie's memory wasn't working anymore aside from the occasional transitory flashback.
At the moment, however, he was enjoying yet another fun time rubbing the front of his diapers. He loved how it felt when he flooded it with sticky big boy juice, but he always felt very fuzzy headed afterward, like he ejected some of his big boy brain cells along with it. Was that how brain cells worked? Maybe. He didn't really know anymore.
"Hi there, little guy," said teacher Darius. "You feeling better?"
Jackie turned and smiled at the teacher, clapping and giggling as he forgot that he was in the middle of rubbing his diapers to another satisfying conclusion. His mind was easily distracted from such things lately, even if they did feel extra good.
"I'll take that as a yes," said Darius, opening the gate and picking Jack up under his diapered bum. He gave the big little guy a few bounces as he looked down at him with a warm smile. "Come on, bubby, it's meal time, and I've got a baba with your name on it! Strained carrots too!"
"Cawwots!" said Jackie, smiling. He liked carrots. It made him feel like a cute baby bunny.
"Do you wanna bring Mr. Draggy with you?"
"Dwaggy!" said Jackie, giggling and hugging his favorite plush from the quiet corner.
"Okay, little guy," Darius said, chuckling. "We can take Mr. Draggy, but remember, Mr. Draggy is from the quiet corner so he's used to things being real quiet, okay? So can you be good for Mr. Draggy so he can stay with us out there?"
"Otay," said Jackie, smiling and nodding. He put up no resistance as Darius carried him over to one of the big kidney shaped desks where he and some other kids always had lunch and arts and crafts. For some of them, clearly the boundary line was blurred, and they'd make an art project of their food, smearing it all around. Or, they might start to eat the paste and paper, in which case they would be removed from the table and assigned to the playpen.
Some of the adult kids were even littler than that, and they ended up being taken out of class altogether, but Jackie never knew where they went. But he was about to find out today. The bib was tied around his neck and he was given his bottle and bowl of food to drink from. The only problem was, Jackie couldn't seem to feed himself. Whenever he tried, his hands just wouldn't work. He began to cry in frustration.
"Oh no, what's wrong, little one?" asked Darius. Jacky just cried and knocked over his bottle. Then he tried to pick up his fork and it clattered to the table thanks to his clumsy hands.
"Oh boy... I think little Jackie is too little to feed himself now, isn't he?" Jackie sobbed and nodded while darius glanced over to his co-teacher and nodded. "He's ready," said the man under his breath. Then he turned to baby Jackie once more and smiled. "Aww, don't worry baby boy. Come with me. I'll take you somewhere you can enjoy all your num nums without any problem.
And just like that, Jackie was whisked away to the door, out into the hall and into a room he had never been in before. In came Jackie to the nursery room along with Mr. Draggy. As soon as he got in he was greeted by an enthusiastic caretaker who was just so happy to have another little one for her nursery.
"Aww! Has another little cutie graduated daycare already?" said the woman.
"Yes," said Darius. "They grown down so fast." He handed him over to the woman, who promptly sat Jackie in a high chair because, after all, it was feeding time for the littler ones too.
"You can call me Nana, sweetie."
"Nana!" said Jackie, giggling again.
"That's right! And that's just what you're gonna be eating for lunch today. Nana pudding and nana milk!"
"Cawwots," said Jackie, whining.
"Ah, sorry Champ," said Darius. "That's the big boy lunch today. You're not ready for big boy lunch.
"It's okay," said Nana, seeing a tantrum coming. "You'll get to have yummy carrots soon enough on baby bunny day! But today is baby monkay day. Do you know what sound a baby monkey makes?"
"Oo oo!" said baby Jackie, his mouth making a little o as his eyes went wide.
The two adults laughed. "That's right, that's right," said Darius.
"Yes, I think he's in the right place," said Nana, nodding to the Daycare attendant who had brought Jackie in. Jackie grinned to himself. He had made it into the baby room. By this time they probably thought he was too far gone to worry about, but this might just be the perfect cover for his escape. Let them think he was a helpless baby. He'd make it out and expose them all. He giggled to himself and rubbed his diaper as he thought of how much free block time he'd have once he got out and got a gold star for being such a good reporter. That's what they gave good reporters, wasn't it? He couldn't really remember.
