The Happiest Day of my Life. [Bakugatsu Day 4]

Katsuki burst through the doors, head whipping back and forth until he spotted what he wanted: An armchair, currently occupied by precisely one (1) husband-butt, holding one (1) bundle of soft blankets.

“Why didn't you wait for me, asshole?!”

“That's not how babies work, Kacchan,” Izuku giggled.

“I was talking to the baby!”

Izuku could see his lower lip trembling, his eyes shinier than usual, but he didn't dare mention it, didn't dare do anything other than calmly hold the tiny bundle and wait.

“You impatient little shit,” he grumbled, snatching the baby despite the way Izuku whined at him for it. “You weren't due for another week!”

The baby cooed, and Katsuki lost his sense of self-control in a heartbeat, tears pouring down his face as he hugged it close. Izuku pouted a little, but still didn't say a word, smiling when Katsuki handed the bundle back to compose himself.

“Oh,” he mumbled, face falling when the tiny lips parted and began to cry too. “Kacchan, I think you're wanted.”

“Shut up nerd, I'm not crying you asshole.”

“What? I never said...? Never mind, Kacchan, just hug the baby please.”

“Fine! If it'll shut you up!”

Izuku smiled, letting Katsuki take the baby back again and hug it close, tears catching in the soft white blanket as they fell. The cries immediately ceased, replaced with more happy little noises, and Katsuki's breath shuddered.

“Um, Kacchan?” Izuku began quietly, gesturing toward the open door. “The doctors need to do some checks, make sure everything is okay.”

“They're not taking my damn baby!”

“It's just for a moment, Kacchan!”

The nurse smiled when Katsuki reluctantly conceded his hold, and she shot a look at Izuku that made him blush.

“You two are a lot alike, aren't you?”

“Yeah,” he admitted sheepishly. “He'll relax soon too, I swear.”

Katsuki hovered the entire time the doctor worked, barely leaving him room to breathe, but finally the blankets were back in his protective arms.

“Congratulations, your little girl is perfect in every way.”

“I could have told you that,” Katsuki sniffed. “Girl, huh?”

“Do you have a name picked out for her?”

“Yeah.”

Izuku leaned into his side, planting a kiss on his cheek, then the baby's.

“Welcome to the family, Kikumi,” he smiled. “Your daddies love you very much!”

“From both our names,” Katsuki explained quietly. “Our families like to pass down a character or two to their kids.”

“It's a lovely name,” the nurse smiled. “A beautiful name for a beautiful girl.”

“Is the surrogate okay? Can I see her?”

“Kacchan,” Izuku reprimanded. “You know that's not the deal.”

“But I need to know she's okay! What if she got hurt or sick or something in the birth?!”

“This is what we agreed to!”

Katsuki pouted, and somehow Izuku found it endearing, despite the stubbornness it came with. He wound an arm around Katsuki's shoulders in an attempt at comforting him, and Katsuki leaned into him a little, accepting the touch.

“Could you give her a letter for us?” Izuku asked finally, looking up at the slightly surprised expression on the doctor's face. “We won't sign our names, and won't ask hers. Just to say thank you?”

“I suppose we could do that,” he agreed. “Let me find you a pen.”

The nurse produced a pen and a notepad immediately, offering them out, and Katsuki handed his daughter to Izuku in favour of taking them, leaning the pad on a wall to write. He mumbled to himself, though Izuku knew he would deny it later, and even the doctor had a hint of fondness in his face as he watched.

“What are you doing?” Izuku asked, when Katsuki took out his wallet. “Kacchan? What are you doing?!”

“It's a tip!” he insisted, tucking all his spare cash inside the folded piece of paper.

“A tip?!”

“For making Kikumi so beautiful!”

Izuku sniggered, quickly stifling it when Katsuki looked back at him, offended.

“You're really not good at handling emotion, are you?” he teased, nodding his consent all the same. “Okay, go on. If it makes you feel better.”

He thrust the letter, entwined with cash, into the nurse's hands, and with a little bow she left to deliver it on their behalf.

“Can you just tell me if she's okay?” Katsuki asked again, a lot softer this time, as he stubbornly took the baby back from Izuku again. “If she's not, I need to do something. Pay her bills, at the very least. She's safe, right?”

“She's absolutely fine, Sir. The birth went stunningly and she is happy and healthy, I promise.”

“Thank you.”

“And now you're most welcome to sign out and take little Kikumi home with you. There's a package waiting for you at the front desk with milk and a few other necessities, courtesy of the agency. If you have any problems or questions please don't hesitate to call.”

“Thank you so much, we're so happy.”

It took only minutes to be out the doors, Katsuki talking quietly as he snuggled with the little bundle while they walked. Izuku couldn't help but smile at him again, grateful he'd had some solid bonding – and breakdown – time of his own before Katsuki had arrived from work.

“Do you want to drive, Kacchan?”

“Fuck you, I'm not giving her back.”

“She'll be on the seat right behind you!”

“No, nerd, she'll be on the seat right behind you. Meanwhile, I'll be on the seat beside her, in case she gets scared in the car.”

“What? She'll be fine, she's not, like, a kitten, or- You know what? Never mind. You're the one who complains about my driving, but it's fine, I'll drive.”

“Drive carefully you fuck.”

“I will, Kacchan, I promise.”

With the utmost care, they settled Kikumi in her brand-new carseat, already belted in and tested for security, waiting for her arrival. She cooed again when Katsuki sat down beside her, and Izuku sighed fondly.

“She's already chosen her favourite, huh?”

“Can you blame her?” Katsuki smirked.

“Not at all. You're my favourite, too. Well, after her, that is.”

“Good answer.”

Katsuki pulled his seatbelt on, and with a last little kiss on a tiny forehead, Izuku climbed in behind the wheel, starting the car to head home. Katsuki watched over her, spellbound by every move and little noise she made, and Izuku smiled at them in the rear view mirror.

“I'm gonna buy you one of those weird papoose things.”

“The fuck is a papoose?”

“Like a big blanket sack you can wear to carry a baby with you at all times.”

“Hell yeah, do it.”

“They look dorky as hell.”

“Are you kidding me? You think I care about looking dorky when I could have my daughter with me at every moment?”

“You're an idiot,” Izuku laughed. “Fine, I'll get you one. We'll find you a nice black and orange one to match your costume.”

“Don't need it, I'm not going back to work for a year.”

Izuku's eyes widened, glancing in the mirror again in an attempt to decipher his expression.

“What happened to splitting it half and half?”

“Fuck that, I'm never leaving her side.”

“I love you, Kacchan.”

“Fuckin' duh. Love you too, nerd.”

He caught Izuku's eyes in the mirror, smirking, and Izuku softened in response, forcing his attention back to the road.

“I have a present for you,” he added, gesturing toward the passenger side of the car. “Under the seat. I've been waiting.”

Katsuki reached for it, digging out a little parcel wrapped in unassuming brown paper, then glanced at Izuku again.

“Should I open it?”

“Yeah!”

He tore off the paper, opening the box inside, and immediately ruby eyes filled with tears again. He plucked the dark onesie from the box, wiping his eyes on his sleeve briefly, hands trembling around the bright orange cross.

“Mini Kacchan,” Izuku teased. “Thought you might like to match.”

“I'm gonna hug you so damn hard when we get home.”

“Oh yes, I'm full of dread.”

With a wobbly smile Katsuki hugged the fabric to his chest, leaning over again to plant another kiss on his daughter's forehead. She cooed at him once more, and any semblance of self-control Katsuki had retained was immediately broken, sobbing into his sleeve like a damn idiot.

“Kacchan,” Izuku said softly. “You're so perfect.”

“Shut up, you damn nerd,” he choked out between sobs. “I just love her so much.”

“I know, sweetie,” Izuku smiled. “She loves her Dad too.”

“Dad,” he spluttered, laughing through his tears. “It sounds so good.”

“Make the most of it,” Izuku teased. “If she's really your daughter she'll be calling you 'old man' within a week.”

“She can call me whatever she fuckin' wants, you think I give a damn? Fuckin' idiot. She's my daughter.”

“Speaking of which, you might want to call your parents. I told my Mom already.”

“Fuck that, I'm not sharing. Not tonight.”

“Not even with me?”

Katsuki contemplated it, his eyebrows knitting together like it might be the toughest question he'd ever had to answer, and Izuku sighed fondly.

“Fine,” Katsuki conceded. “But only you and only because I fuckin' love you.”

“I love you too, Kacchan.”

“This is the happiest day of my god-damn life.”

Izuku thought back through countless ceremonies for weddings and medals, through graduations and safe returns from long missions, through the day he got into U.A., the day he got his quirk, the day he met All Might, the day he met Katsuki, and with a little smile, he nodded.

“Yeah,” he agreed. “Mine too.”
