Weekly Update - May 20th

My dudes it has been a week. I have zero for you on the fic updates front because I got SWARMED with uni assignments so I apologise for that. I'm hoping to have the next oneshot up by the time I post my next blog though, so cross your fingers for me!! It's nearly the end of the semester and everything is just a mess hahahahakillme.

However, big welcome to any of you who might not have read one of these before! There are a few more new people here (presumably to read Tall Order - I hope you like it!!)  so if you aren't aware, this is where I ramble about my writing process and writing goals, and sometimes provide sneak peeks into what I'm working on.

so

Weekly WIPS: Yeah, no, sorry. Soon though I promise!!

Goals Update: I've finally been back to some original fiction, as mentioned, and have more coming up for the end of semester portfolios, so I hope you enjoy seeing that when it goes up in a few more weeks! (Gotta get my results back before I post it, to make sure it's not gonna put me on watch for plagiarism haha). I'm also at 220k words for the year, which means I need to aim for another 30k in the next 2 weeks - oops. I might fall a little short this month, but I get over a month off uni soon so will hopefully make up for it then.

Writing Tips??: This is a when-I-think-of-something segment so please don't think it's becoming weekly just because I did two weeks in a row haha. Today is a super short one.

People ask fairly frequently about my note-taking and idea-processing system since I'm always so damn busy.  I have a couple of methods for this that I switch between depending on circumstances.

1: Screenshots. By far the most common method is that I come up with a random idea and when I start telling a friend about it, it starts to grow. I have a couple of friends, mostly on twitter, who I will DM with a premise and either I get more ideas as I type it, or they'll come back with something that sparks more. Then I take screenshots of the conversations and save them in a subfolder inside my Ideas folder. I have a subfolder for every idea, where I can keep screenshots, notes, drawings, whatever, for future reference.

2: Slightly less common is written notes. Literally just notes in google keep (when I'm at work) or a notepad file (when on laptop) that are very short, simple, and to the point. For instance I had one in google keep for about a week while writing Tall Order that just said "Izuku knows where to get cell reception" which was enough to remind me what I wanted to write for Chapter 6 (which is now on Ao3 so I feel like it's safe to give that minor spoiler).

3: Much less common, but still something I do - audio recordings. I often get struck by inspiration while driving, especially for dialogue for some reason? This is more common with my original stuff than with fics, but I just start a video recording (quicker to access than audio, but voice recorder would be smarter) and talk to myself. Usually having conversations with myself in my best imitation of that character's voice lmao.

No, I will never post them for you to hear. They get burned after transcription.

That's all for this week, good luck to any of you stuck in end-of-semester-hell with me, and please cross your fingers that I don't die 👀

Song of the week: Neon - Jeff and Casey Lee Williams

Mostly just because I love it and it's stuck in my head, but also secretly it reminds me of one of the OCs I will one day write a fic about.
