A Hero in Sheep's Clothing [Threadvember]

Future Twitter Thread for Ran on Kofi!

Midoriya disappearing for no apparent reason was pretty common. Tea with All Might, a training idea he wanted to put into action right away, or just a grocery trip he'd forgotten to take and had to run out for at the last minute. In day to day life, no one would have thought anything of it.

Bakugou disappearing as equally common, although his was more commonly just to hide out in his bedroom. If that wasn't it, they could always find him in the gym or the library. So disappearing? Yes, common. Unfindable? Much less so.

Then again, when they were away on a class field trip, neither of them could really be considered "common".

"Do you think they went off together?" Kirishima asked, as they stared out the window at a dumb sheep attacking a wooden fence. "I can see Bakugou wandering off for some alone time, but Midoriya as well?"

"You don't think they went investigating, do you?" Uraraka whispered, scrubbing off another potato and handing it over. "About that story we heard?"

"That does sound like a Deku thing to do," Kirishima sighed, cracking a tiny smile. "You know, our first day I almost thought Midoriya was a sweet, sensible guy? Until we did that dumb test and he broke his own fingers. I guess Deku is a lot less sensible than Midoriya is."

A loud crack outside made them look up in a hurry, every eye on the property turning to the backyard sheep pen. Squeals erupted when a fluffy wolf bared its teeth at them, growling when they took a step closer. With a spark of green lightning in its wake, the idiot sheep broke through the solid fence, and the group dissolved into chaos as sheep poured from the pen, the massive wolf barking and chasing them like a kid in a store of fleeing candy.

"Did that sheep just use Deku's quirk?" Uraraka squeaked, throwing the potatoes back in the sink. "Kirishima, did you see that?!"

"We've gotta catch him before that wolf gets him!"

By the time they got outside, everyone was in action. Classmates were chasing the sheep, herding them away from the wolf, a few were even working on the fence, trying to stick it back together with what hey could improvise from their quirks. But despite the chaos, the wolf wasn't attacking – in fact, when Uraraka looked up, it seemed to be running off, back toward the forest that the farmers had warned them not to enter.

It had been the first thing out of their mouths, or near enough, as they showed the class around their property.

"Welcome to our home! The toilets are to your left, and don't go near the forest."

They'd heard plenty of rumours since – people going in after a lost animal and never coming back, people from the village disappearing without a trace, only to find security footage of them heading for the forest. Some of their classmates had been eager to investigate, but most had been content to stay out of it.

Interestingly enough, Bakugou and Midoriya had been two of the team who wanted to go looking for trouble. It was no surprise that they'd disappeared. But now, a sheep with Deku's quirk? There had to be something weird going on in there, if it was duplicating quirks – or god forbid, moving them to new hosts.

When the farmers rushed out to see what was going on, the mood changed immediately. The wolf that had been disappearing, along with one sheep that Uraraka suspected had been the one with the lightning, immedately stopped heading for the forest. They turned on the farmers, snarling and baaing as they ran full-tilt back at the humans, but when Kirishima stepped in to act as a shield, Uraraka held them back.

"Get it off me!" the old man yelled, rolling and thrashing as the wolf tackled him to the ground. "Stop it! It's gonna eat me!"

When the front paws slammed down on the man's chest, tiny explosions bursting between them, the students fell silent. The wolf barked and snarled, the man yelled, but every one of the teenagers just watched, stared.

"Baaa!"

Uraraka turned to see the fluffy sheep standing sternly on top of the older woman, baaing indignantly in her face.

"Deku?" she asked, taking a step closer. "What happened to you?"

"Baaa!"

"Iida!" she yelled, looking back over her shoulder. "Go get Aizawa-sensei!"

"I'm on it."

"I'll tell you everything!" the man yelled, as a paw burst in his face. "Just get him off me!"

The wolf backed off with a low growl, eyeing him warily, and Kirishima cautiously stepped in between them. Kaminari took up residence at the man's back, boxing him in just in case, and when the wolf stood at Kirishima's side he found himself reaching down to stroke its spiky fur.

"You okay, Bakugou?" he asked quietly, watching bright red eyes dart up to look at him. "We'll figure this out."

The wolf barked once, shaking the hand off like water after a swim, and Kirishima could only grin.

"Aizawa-sensei is on his way," Yaoyorozu spoke up. "We should restrain them until he arrives."

No matter how much a small subset of the class protested it, Bakugou had ended up locked in the barn. The farmer's had confessed to everything, to kidnapping people and transforming them with their quirks, hiding them in plain sight until it was safe to traffic them out. Some had died – a lot had died – and no one was willing to let that go. The quirk would wear off, they were told, would only take time, and so far everyone's safety, explodo-wolf was relegated to solitary confinement in the barn. He'd been given some blankets, at least, to get comfortable and keep warm, but other than that there was nothing they could do.

The sheep was more of a concern. On closer inspection they'd found a familiar pattern of dark freckles on the sheep's face, bright green eyes where they would normally only find black and brown, and so with another set of blankets he'd been set up in a smaller, emptier paddock. His friends checked on him frequently, made sure he was safe and comfortable – or at least, they had, until they found the paddock empty.

They'd searched high and low, had even checked the spooky forest that they now knew was only haunted by villains disguised as farmers rather than anything truely sinister, but no sign of him had shown up.

"We should check the barn," Uraraka said finally. "He probably found a way to sneak in and check on his Kacchan."

"Oh," Kirishima answered dumbly, jaw dropping. "Why didn't we think of that first?"

"Because we didn't think Deku was stupid enough to willingly seek out a wolf?"

"Fair point."

Timidly they cracked open the barn doors, peeking inside, but where they expected carnage, they only found...

"We should go," Uraraka whispered, stepping back quickly. "Don't say a word!"

As quietly as they could, they shut the doors again, hurrying off back to the house as if nothing had happened.

"We found him," they told the class. "He's safe, it's okay! Don't worry about him!"

While the class sat down to dinner, discussing the exhausting events of their day and filling Aizawa in on everything that had happened.

Meanwhile, out in the barn, a blond wolf slumbered on his blankets, a fluffy, befreckled sheep curled in against his warm body.
