Not going anywhere [New Year's Eve 2k19]

He'd been searching for the better part of the last half hour. He'd tried to keep his eye on the man throughout the night, had tried to keep within range of him, but at some point he'd slipped out of Katsuki's view and seemingly vanished.
When he spotted a flash of red and white hair in the crowd, he headed that way, hoping to find the freckled nerd with his best friend β although Katsuki hated to think of him that way, since he was supposed to be Izuku's best friend.
But no, Shouto had been chatting in a corner with Momo, not even a hint of green within ten metres of him. He briefly considered interrupting to ask, but with the time it would take to force the question out and probably explain why if he wanted to actually get an answer, it just wasn't worth it.

A familiar giggle and a stern voice with lectures of professionalism and humility β that was his next port of call. He could see the hands chopping and waving frantically from across the room, and he hated how much hope it filled him with, waiting for the familiar sheepish smile that said he was the one being lectured, probably for something stupid.
"Save me, Blasty!"
Nope, another bust. Of course it was Denki being lectured. In the room full of their graduating class there was no one else it was ever going to be, unless some idiot had decided to invite a miniscule purple cretin along.
He turned on his heel, stalking away immediately, barely even registering the pleas for rescue that followed his back.

Maybe he had to take a piss, that was a logical asumption. They'd all been drinking, after all. That was kind of the point of the reunion, he suspected. It was the first holiday season since the last of them had turned twenty, and while Katsuki had been drinking with a few of his friends for over a year, for many of them it was the first real event where they were allowed to order from the bar.
It wasn't really a big deal in Katsuki's mind, he didn't see the appeal of getting drunk out of his mind and not remembering his actions the next day, but he was man enough to admit that he'd had a few that night, to loosen his inhibitions a little.
He headed for the bathroom to check, peeking inside and finding a bunch of familiar faces, but not the one he wanted. He felt like kind of a creep, looking and immediately leaving again, but he didn't have the time to piss right now. He had more important things on his itinerary.

As he headed back to the party, hoping maybe the nerd had shown up in the time he was away, he caught a glimpse of a pinstriped suit out the corner of his eye. His parents had supplied it for the guy, after seeing his disaster of a fashion sense in his first major interview, so he'd have been an idiot not to recognise it, not to notice it.
He froze in the doorway, looking out at the quiet little balcony, a familiar broad-shouldered figure leaning against the railing.
It was a stupidly pretty picture, he was strong enough to admit that. The starry sky beyond his frame, the flute of champagne sitting untouched on the railing beside him, the soft look on his face as he gazed up at the bright moon in a cloudless night sky. For the middle of winter, it was a beautiful night, devoid of clouds and snow.
He couldn't resist slipping his phone from his pocket, glancing at the time before he pulled up his camera and snapped a few photos.

"Deku?"
The man whirled around, his eternal baby-face lighting up in his excitement.
"Kacchan!"
"I wondered where you'd disappeared to."
"Were you looking for me?"
"Kind of," he admitted sheepishly, tucking his phone away and sliding the glass door closed behind him. "I didn't think I'd find you in such a quiet place."
"I thought this was the kind of place Kacchan would go," he smiled softly. "I was looking for you too."
He slid a glass of champagne Katsuki's way, and for the first time Katsuki noticed the matching pair that had been partially shielded by Izuku's frame.
"Want to toast the new year with me?" Izuku asked, his smile a little shy.
"I have a better idea."

As people inside cheered and clinked their glasses, and fireworks set off over the water, Katsuki stepped closer. Izuku seemed to understand long before Katsuki got there, stepping in to meet him, and then his arm was winding around Katsuki's neck, Katsuki's moving to rest on the small of Izuku's back.
The touch was so warm, so perfect, and as their lips met, Katsuki wished that moment could last a lifetime.
"Happy new year, Kacchan," Izuku smiled brighter than Katsuki had ever seen it as they parted, warm breath still ghosting over each other's skin. "Thank you for spending it with me."
"Any time, nerd."
Izuku's hand trailed up, fingers toying with the strands of wispy hair on the back of Katsuki's neck, and Katsuki shivered under the touch.
"Are you cold, Kacchan?"
"I'm okay."
"I could warm you up."
"Suddenly I'm freezing my ass off."
Izuku giggled sweetly, such a cute and innocent sound out of such a chiselled, muscular body, and Katsuki couldn't help but smile back. Sure enough, though, Izuku pulled him in a little tighter, folding him into warm arms, and Katsuki melted into his touch.
"This is the best start to a year ever," Izuku smiled, nuzzling into Katsuki's soft hair, nose pressed to his temple comfortably.
Katsuki let it happen, maybe even leaned in a little himself, resting in the crook of Izuku's neck.
He'd been mad the first time he saw Izuku had grown taller than him, but right in that moment, he was grateful for the nerd's stupid, late growth spurt.
"Let me take you out for dinner," Katsuki murmured. "I don't want this to end."
"But Kacchan it's midnight, dinner is so far away!"
"Breakfast, then. Let's stay up to watch the sunrise, then go out for breakfast."
"That sounds perfect," Izuku grinned. "And who knows, maybe we'll end up having dinner too?"
"Sounds good," Katsuki couldn't help but laugh. "We should probably sleep, at some point."
"I'll sleep when you're gone. Right now I want to spend every minute I can with you, just like this."
"You're such a cheesy nerd," Katsuki snorted, pausing for a moment. "But I'm not going anywhere."
"We can have more days like this?"
"Every day. For the rest of our lives."
"I'd like that."
They were still pressed together in the chilly night air, still separated from the crowd by just a thin glass door, but Katsuki had no intention of parting until it was absolutely necessary.
Yeah, he wasn't going anywhere.
