Added 2020-01-05 19:37:12 +0000 UTCI saw my family today...towards the end of my visit, my mother told me she uses Spotify for help sleeping. “But I can’t listen to everything. Sometimes those weird ASMI audios come on where people are whispering in your ear and crinkling paper. That’s so creepy,” she paused before adding, “or maybe people are using it for *something else*.”
I tried so hard to hold my composure. :D

Totally! I remember trying to descibe it to my parents when I was a kid, thinking it was something everyone experienced. They were so confused by what I was talking about, they mentioned it to my doctor next time I went in for a check-up.

2020-01-07 15:38:05 +0000 UTCThat’s interesting! In the case of my mother, she thinks it’s too intimate and the thought of someone being so close to her is off-putting. I’m always excited when someone I know IRL experiences brain tingles from ASMR. I don’t find that happens often, though.
2020-01-07 15:31:18 +0000 UTCA science group I'm part of recently had a post on Facebook about ASMR and they asked for comments on people's experience with it. I got excited because I love seeing the topic get attention, but then I was surprised and dismayed when more than half of the commenters actually complained about having negative reactions to ASMR! It wasn't just thinking the videos were annoying; people talked about the sensations causing a lot of discomfort. I guess for some it's like an overstimulation? It made me sad because it's such a wonderful feeling that I wish I could share with everyone.
