Been taking a Zat break with an exploration of Victorian paleoart, I think I'll be posting the colored versions here first, and mostly post publicly the sepia-toned versions that will definitely see print.

The beginning of Paleontological science was fraught with the reconciliation of the truth of paleontological history and the myth of Christian science, with biologists, scientists and philosophers trying to make sense of how both could be possible. Imagery-wise this is something I wanted to play with, so throughout you'll find compositional references to famous works of the time that depict myths in the various Christo-canons, such as Gustav Dore's illustrations for Paradise Lost, seen here in the first panel.

Also attached are various Victorian depictions of pterosaurs, including my favorite; the one where they thought it was a bat somehow.

Species on panel: Ornithocheirus, Rhamphorhynchus, Pterodactylus, Dimorphodon, Ichthyosaurus
