This series was never meant to represent any person in particular, although I draw a lot of inspiration from my neurodiverse friends. The way they've described their frustrating experiences in neurotypical situations makes me think that could be what it's like to be a neko.
Some things my friends do are praised and admired while other things are discouraged, which is unfair, to only want to deal with a small part of who a person is and ignore the rest.
Of course I'm not saying neurodiverse people are nekos, or that they act like this, but if you find yourself relating to a lot of things in this series it might be because I had a conversation with a friend that inspired part of the script. I'm sorry if you've ever felt like you didn't belong because of the way people treated you!
