Trying a new platform for artists...👨🏻‍🎨

FOR THE RECORD: I’m not leaving instagram LOL. At first I thought that I was doing something wrong when I noticed I was plateauing on my instagram growth. When I took a break and didn't post anything for a few months, I had a massive surge of unfollows. I knew it was gonna happen, but I couldn’t let “numbers” determine whether if I should take a break or not. I took a look at my insights the other day, and the number of unfollows I got just for not posting can be a little jarring. Then I also saw other artists who also shared that the algorithm has also been affecting them as days of not posting = more unfollows. I know that at the end of the day, followers, likes, numbers in general should mean nothing. But as artists, we pour so much into our work, it can be a teensy bit discouraging to know that the platform you share your work on pushes you to the bottom when you don’t spend every living second posting on it.

With the world of social media constantly expanding, there are so many platforms that you could be posting on to grow a new audience, and it can be overwhelming. I kind of missed the days of being a middle schooler on Deviantart where the community you were surrounded by was more focused on art, but still had the casual feel of a social media app. So while I will still be here on Instagram, I wanted to try something new and join @bubblehouse_app, a new app for creatives, which has so many more viewing options to share your work. As a comic artist, I really value having more than 10 panels to tell my stories, and be able to share work BEYOND just comics (without "ruining" the look of my feed). It’s humbling to just start off small again, and focus on having fun more so than the pressure to immediately grow. I feel hopeful about this new app and am super excited to see other artists join and share their work on it too!
