Like, do you ever have to think, "This is a good place for a chromatic line" because a part seems too simple, or is it just the vibe?

I'm wanting to take my riff writing to the next level as I recently joined a band that is really sick (our drummer is Derek Roddy from hate eternal/nile etc) maybe some cool scales or exercises you recommend or maybe set up a lesson. I have pretty decent physical ability but struggle with writing multiple intricate parts that all fit together. Maybe it's imposter syndrome but I feel like my riffs are lame

What sort of process works well for artists to collaborate together, and how would you like to see that process improve and work better for the band. I play on a 2mm, do I need a thinner pick, thicker pick, one of those rock sized plectrums or is it time to sell the guitars?
